This was tried back in the early 70’s.
In an effort to attract young urban Black males, the organization re-styled itself “Scouting USA” on the theory that “Boy” was off-putting to said urban Black males. A gratuitous change in headgear to a red beret was also made.
Rank requirements we also re-vamped to de-emphasize outdoor/nature skills and reflect social awareness.
The whole exercise was a miserable failure and was rolled back after a few years.
I predict this development will meet with a similar end.
BTW—I still have my red beret.
The organization, most likely, is irreparable.
The leadership and culture is gone. It is not coming back.
I was in in the early 70’s as well, and thought that the red beret was... well, gay.
Should have just gone with Little Man Scouts if Boys was offensive.
