Already, a jobs-guarantee idea polls pretty well...??? You bet! At $543 billion a year?

This assumes that all those who now don’t work will somehow acquire the Protestant Work Ethic and show up on time everyday and work for 8 hours.

This. Anybody who doesn't have a job has a reason for not having a job. And it's usually that it's more profitable or beneficial to not work. The other problem with this idea is that they are going to do "works programs" which usually means manual, low-skilled labor jobs, and those not working generally find themselves "above" such indignity. So, the next step is to declare that requiring minorities to "be forced" to "demean themselves" in such types of "unfulfilling" employment for their guaranteed money is racist. Then, they just move to handing out a minimum living allowance to everyone, regardless whether they work or not. Yeah, this is going to succeed...

Yup. It’s another of those self-evident truths. Teach your children well.

Guaranteed job?

Soviets had a similar program.

Old Russian saying: We pretend to work, they pretend to pay us.

Still think an Article V Convention is a good idea, folks?
A job would become a Constitutional right.

Kurt Schlicter addressed this in one of his books...

People in the gov't program - usually minorities - were assigned to work at various employers. The employers were assigned to pay them, at the point of a gun.

The "employees" only showed up at work once a week to pick up their checks.

Fiction? Sure. But not too far from this version of reality, should it pass...

According to the lefties, we need to import hard-working immigrants to fill jobs.

Why can’t these slackers take those jobs?

I would suggest that Trump could buy into this for his infrastructure program. EXCEPT, Trump does not relish the idea of government run projects. What we will see instead is a plethora of government/private funded projects built by private sector contractors coming in on time and under budget. The Bernie projects will be bottomless money pits.

No one paid that. Back then there were all sorts of deductions that are now gone and many ways to shield income, that are also gone now.

If you truly had a 90% tax in the top 5% why would they even go to work anymore? You can only tax the wealthy to a certain point but it is mythical that you can get enough extra tax monies out of that group to fund anything else.

I remember reading a book about Abbott and Costello and one of them fell behind on their taxes and the rates at their income were so high that they could never catch up.

The IRS just took their property.

Happened frequently

Incredible that 46% of likely voters have the mental capacity of an onion rotting in a field. I hope these are not the folks that are going to staff Bernie’s fantasy of Federal jobs for all. I rather talk to the answering machine than one of these folks manning the phones for the federal gubmint.

Unionized, and the projects will all be related to global warming (climate change), building additional PP abortion mills, legal weed distribution centers, sustainable (non productive) energy scams, the gay, lesbian, transgender monument and museum, and other assorted liberal wet dreams.

That was probably due to a manager who was inept or stealing from him. That happened to Errol Flynn, he thought he was set for life and had entrusted his money to his manager. The guy died and all of sudden Flynn is about broke, the guy spent all of Flynn’s money on high living and a private plane.

Flynn had a hard time ever paying the IRS off. That happens frequently to entertainment and sports figures. They always trust the wrong person.

Also to shield income in that era a lot of people, like business people, and entertainment people, had personal corporations formed, their money was paid into that, then they took what money they needed to live on and paid a lower tax rate.
