Roy Moore: I could run for governor
The Hill ^ | 05/03/18 | Ben Kamisar

Posted on 05/03/2018 12:19:40 PM PDT by Simon Green

Former Alabama Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore, who lost a December special election after allegations of past child molestation and sexual misconduct surfaced, floated a possible future bid for office in a statement released Thursday.

"I have no plans at this time to run for office. Nevertheless, plans change. If the opportunity arises to make a difference, I will have no reluctance to again run for political office, including that of governor," he said in the statement.

Moore lost the recent special election to fill Attorney General Jeff Sessions's Senate seat in no small part thanks to the allegations that surfaced against him weeks before the election — including accusations that he initiated a sexual encounter with a 14-year-old girl and sexually and romantically pursued teenagers decades ago while he was in his 30s.

But he and his allies have been defiant, raising money for a legal defense fund and arguing in a Tuesday press conference that he's a victim of a "political conspiracy."

Most Republicans stood by Moore as the party's nominee — the Alabama state GOP and the Republican National Committee refused calls to disavow his candidacy — and President Trump not only questioned the accusation but headlined a rally on Moore's behalf in the final days of the campaign.

However, the National Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee cut its fundraising ties with Moore and its head, Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.), called on the Senate to expel him if elected.

Moore had been floated as a possible gubernatorial candidate earlier this year as Gov. Kay Ivey (R) considered running for reelection, but he ultimately did not file a candidacy.

He's previously staged two failed campaigns for governor, while winning two elections to serve as the state's chief justice of the Supreme Court.

So could I...and probably have a better chance of winning.

You probably would. Not many can come back from the Emmanuel Goldstein treatment.

You're lucky that someone goes to the bother of trying to set you straight.
you know, if you find yourself having to set the whole world straight, maybe we're not the ones that are twisted.

just a thought.

You think the world is not twisted?

I look around and pretty much all I see is twisted world. If you think everything is straight in the world, then by all means, take no further heed of anything I may have to say.

I would in fact ask if you could tell me the secret of how to get into your world, because I much prefer sunshine and roses to dark and foreboding clouds.

Spending the last weekend before the 2017 special election traveling to Philadelphia for a stupid football game instead of campaigning in Alabama made him the Alabama version of Hillary Clinton.

I can't believe there are people out there dumb enough to donate to a Roy Moore political campaign after that stunt.

I assure you, the world is not ending because Roy Moore isn’t currently making 14 year old girls in the hallways of congress uncomfortable.

I’ll just say he needs to go on the offensive against his accusers in some believable way before he attempts another run for office.

Moore may be a good guy and all that.
But the simple fact is he is an incompetent candidate.
He couldn’t motivate a Republican electorate (Who should have been furious at all the outside interference!) to get off their ass and vote to keep a pro-abortion gun grabber from the Senate. Voting for Moore (or anyone for that matter!) is sometimes irrelevant. Often you need to vote to deny someone power rather then grant someone that power. Moore couldn’t inspire Alabamans to do that! Politics is clearly not his line of work!

"Both of my grandmothers, in very different places, married at 14 to adult men."

Yeah....I was going to say the same thing... Grandmother on my mother's side was married at 14 years.. My Grandfather at the time was 24... They were together over 50 years..

"I assure you, the world is not ending because Roy Moore isn’t currently making 14 year old girls in the hallways of congress uncomfortable.

Your presumption is that Roy Moore is guilty -- before having been charged, arrested, arraigned, trialed, or convicted. You find him guilty based upon the accusation of a potential "bad actor" and the full court fake news press we have seen destroy candidates over and over again. Meanwhile nearly two dozen people who knew Moore at the time this poor behavior allegedly took place spoke to the contrary. Why do you drink the fake news kool aid? What happened to "innocent until proved guilty"? Especially on this forum, I hope for better.

“The Roy Moore fans in Alabama will have another chance to vote for him!

And, be dumb as a post again...”

I won’t insult you like you just did me, but I will say that there was a conspiracy against Roy Moore that worked perfectly. You can expect it to be used against every religious conservative in the future. We should just accept that maybe the RINOs, the liberals, and the press will allow us to vote for a good RINO candidate without them trying to falsely ruin his reputation.

Given the statute of limitations, it's not possible for Moore to be charged, arrested, arraigned, trialed, or convicted.

Just. No.
I believe he is a moral man, but he can’t win. Especially after the last debacle.

Spending the last weekend before the 2017 special election traveling to Philadelphia for a stupid football game instead of campaigning in Alabama made him the Alabama version of Hillary Clinton.

And this oft repeated claim is not based in reality either. There was at this point, no one left in Alabama that was going to change their minds. Campaigning would have only left him open to the Agent Provocateur attacks which the Democrats had already started ramping up.

People who were well knowledgeable about how to run campaigns instructed him to keep a low profile in the lead up to the election, because there was nothing he could do or say at this point that would undo the damage the Democrat Media and the Republican backstabbers did to him with the unprovable accusations.

It is also not ending because people like you are repeating smears against a man without any evidence or proof to support your smear.

It just helps keep the world a twisted place.

But the simple fact is he is an incompetent candidate.

And what is your basis for believing that? He got over a million votes for his position as Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court.

He couldn’t motivate a Republican electorate (Who should have been furious at all the outside interference!) to get off their ass and vote to keep a pro-abortion gun grabber from the Senate.

I dare say that if Donald Trump had been accused of rape and child molesting with the entire weapon system of the National media and *BOTH* political parties repeating the claim, he wouldn't have won either, and it would have had no bearing on his competency as a candidate.

The question should have been put to the voters like this:
Who is more likely to support the Trump agenda, Moore, or this other yahoo?

That’s how simple it was.
