Feds monitored Trump lawyer Michael Cohen's phones(NOT wired TAP)
NBC ^

Posted on 05/03/2018 2:38:54 PM PDT by janetjanet998

EDITOR'S NOTE: Earlier today, NBC News reported that there was a wiretap on the phones of Michael Cohen, President Trump’s longtime personal attorney, citing two separate sources with knowledge of the legal proceedings involving Cohen.

But three senior U.S. officials now dispute that, saying that the monitoring of Cohen’s phones was limited to a log of calls, known as a pen register, not a wiretap where investigators can actually listen to calls.

NBC News has changed the headline and revised parts of the original article.

It’s pretty much all digital in 2018. They don’t have to have to have fake telephone repairman go onto the premises and physically install wiretaps these days. They’ll just digitally pick out the calls they’re interested in downstream.

As if “monitored” isn’t “wire-tapped.” Morons.

No, they're not the same thing. "Monitored" means they use a so-called pen register, which records the length of all calls, and the phone numbers of all incoming and outgoing calls, but doesn't record the content of those calls. Legally, much easier to do than wiretapping.

Well, of course. That makes it all better. For a moment there I thought we had a banana republic where the State Security apparatus was wiretapping the President. Thank goodness they’re only “registering “ (recording) the calls. No one in the FBI is sitting there 24/7 with a headset on listening. That would be a bit much. But the FBI recording conversions between the President and his lawyer; that’s perfectly fine... Nothing wrong at all. Happens every day.

Not buying it- they can say they didn’t listen but I wouldn’t put anything past these witch hunters. Who is going to make them prove they didn’t listen into the calls?

No doubt they are listening to Melania too.

“Pen Registers”, those were the good old days. All done electronically now with the stroke of a keyboard.

Of course, but lawyers still use the old-fashioned term.

Rudy said the wiretap story was BS now we know he was right

Or they are denying and covering their tracks because Rudy said that it had to be BS because they'd be toast if they really did it.

Yah, but admit only to metadata and the like.

It’s just a coincidence the investigators act as if they have a transcript.

This means they wiretapped him without a warrant. Likely took illegally gotten info to court to get office raid warrant.
