I’m just checked the Spectrum site for our area for cable modems. The customer can provide his own equipment and there are 24 models certified for up to 100 Mbps. I use Arris with Comcast here in California and it has been very good. Needs a reboot maybe once a year.
Spectrum says they provide the appropriate modem for your Internet service plan and speed tier at no additional charge:
* Optimal security setting is set by default.
* They upgrade your equipment if needed at no additional cost.
* Technical support for your modem is available 24/7 from Spectrum.
* Return equipment if you cancel your service.
Yeah, they give you another Technicolor modem...
Spectrum is Charter communications, the WORST corporation in America, both for employees and customers.
I have a Roku box. I get Sling tv for $30/month because I add the SEC channel for 4 months per year during college football season. I sign no contract and once college football season is over, I drop it.
I have two external hard drives that hold 1 terabyte each. I scan the BBC channels along with British channel 4, channel 5, ITV, Discovery, Smithsonian, PBS etc. to see if there are any programs I want. If so, I just search YouTube, Dailymotion, Vimeo, Torrents, etc and I can almost always find and download what I want. It then gets added to my huge library of saved programs on my external hard drives. I can then watch whenever I want for free with no commercials. I pay nothing. Its awesome....TV completely under MY control.
I’ve had Amazon Prime for a number of years in order to have content to stream, and apps to download, to my various Kindle Fire tablets. The price is currently $99 a year plus tax, it’s going up this year whenever your current yearly subscription comes up for renewal, to $119 plus tax. (There hasn’t been an increase for four years and they say shipping costs are going up - free two-day shipping is also included and I use that also, so I can accept the necessity of a price increase.) I go with the services that interact best with my devices. BTW, I also have an antenna for my HDTV that brings in about 20 local channels and substations plus two religious channels, all for free. For sports, I’m at the mercy of what is streaming free on the internet.
My 10 electives and the wife’s 10 electives are worlds apart so this can’t work for me.
Its amazing what a good antenna setup brings in for free!
I live in Killen, TX and have Spectrum Choice running on my Roku. Best damn deal going. Easy to use and set up. (I already had Spectrum Internet for 50/month). I was trying to cut the cord but it was difficult trying to stay current with Fox News. youtube keeps shutting down the channels. Anywho, since I only watch a handful of channels this is great.
Super. That’s the opinion I was forming. Thanks for the input!
I’d cut the cord if my wife didn’t like her sports, home shows and Judge Judy.
I bought a NAS home media server and have 350 ripped movies on it. It’s my own private content farm exclusively with stuff I like.
I agree brother!
Bahh! Don't even get me started on the Telephone company! LOL
"We're the phone company, we don't have to care"
The “bundlers will fight us tooth and nail”
Starve the beast.
A very kind woman pays for our Spectrum subscription at the local VFW.
I said the day it was installed.. “In a week, we will be watching the same 5 channels”
It took 1 day LOL!
Meanwhile the bundle is 1500 Channels of praline and dick!
Yesterday, the thing was on Bravo.
I said Mary, why am I watching 2 gay guys furnish their apt?
She says I don’t know, how to change the channel LOL
Nor did I, but I got Pawn stars on LOL
Cable is a JOKE
Can I still pay extra to watch Ghostbusters 8 times a month? /s
I get 63 HD channels in a $35 antenna.
Tons of it is garbage but it’s HD in a ONETIME payment of $35
Buy a ROKU 4 for one time cost of about $100, get SlingTV https://tinyurl.com/ybwumzlt and get most of the cable channels plus 4 Epix movie channels, a couple of other movie channels, baseball & hockey channels and they seem to be adding more programs all the time for just $25/month.
I use a over the air tv antenna for many stations. Go to TV Guide and click on what’s on http://www.tvguide.com/listings
I should update my antenna and maybe I can get 60 channels, too. I still have the system I put in at the time of the analog wipe out.
