Did you see the movie? I saw it last week.
Everybody in the movie were chain smokers. Cigarette smoke everywhere. I remember those times when I was in college.
Not intending to be insensitive to the dead, but the only person in the entire movie who didn't smoke was Mary Jo Kopechne. She couldn't light up under water.
The movie also revealed how rigged and dishonest everyone around Ted Kennedy were in trying to script an acceptable explanation for her death just to keep Teddy boy out of trouble.
If the movie is true, Ted never accepted any responsibility for the accident or her death, even trying to say it was her fault because she was driving and not him, when they went off the bridge.
After the car flew off the bridge and flipped into the water upside down, he got out and just walked back to the cottage where the party was and started his lies from there. Didn't even report it to the local police until the next morning after it was too late to save the poor girl.
The diver who brought her body up the next day, said that if Kennedy had called the police right away, he could have been there in 15 minutes and saved the girl. Shows just how egotistical, narcissistic and evil Ted Kennedy was.
And yet throughout the movie, he portrayed himself as the victim and not poor Mary Jo.
But even then, he was more concerned about his reputation and his chances of becoming president one day, instead of showing any concern for the dead girl. He should have been arrested for vehicular homicide but the Kennedy machine was bigger than the law.
The media machine has even said that Mary Jo would be so proud of what Ted Kennedy DID accomplish in the years after this incident that she’d forgive him for the death thing.
