(Breaking) N.Korea States Conditions; Threatens to Walk from Talks (from Korean sources)
SBS-TV South Korea and other Korean/Japanese news sources ^ | 6 May 2018 | SBS-TV South Korea original Korean

Summary synopsis of Korean language version (link above):

North Korea through the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) today stated that the barely one week old "Panmunjom Agreement" between Kim Jong Un and Moon Jae In is falling victim to "misinterpretation" by the United States and threatened the talks between Kim and Trump will go nowhere and "things will return to zero" if the following happens: a) there is no loosening of economic sanctions currently on North Korea even prior to denuclearization; b) there is any pressure on them in the area of human rights.

KCNA has, in fact, carried it, the official voice of the North Korean regime, stating also Kim Jong Un is in firm control of the talks from the DPRK side; further this statement is being relayed in major Japanese conservative daily "Sankei" Shimbun today in Japanese:

http://www.sankei.com/world/news/180506/wor1805060029-n1.html

I see AP and CBS carrying it in the US as well.

No big surprises here. This follows a well-known strategic path of North Korean brinksmanship even to the precipice point of hot shooting and in most cases, until now the USG has been the one to blink--for fear of that shooting... so it is no surprise they are resorting to it again since it usually works for them.

Yeah, and we usually sweeten the pot with a few billion dollars. Hopefully, this Administration puts a halt to that crap. It’s always a shakedown...no more.

Who is surprised to discover that Fat Boy is also a master at negotiation?

For one, the dummies who jumped the gun on the Pulitzer peace prize.

It aint over till its over.

President Trump will ultimately win but I expect many dodges, reversals and on and off threats before it is over.

The economic sanctions are hurting. No way they should be lifted until after the complete dismantling of nuclear weapons, materiel, technology, and knowledge base.

I suppose if Rocketman needs help with his trash talk, he can get his buddy Dennis Rodman to provide some new one-liners.

President Trump earlier tweeted and taunted “Rocket Man” for the misfortune of gas lines forming in North Korea.

He has the leverage and knows how to use it. He stated without an agreement the sanctions would not be suspended.

North Korea can hem and haw all they want. There’s no way out!

#MAGA baby, MAGA!

Follow the link and translate to English. Not a good translation available but this appears to be routine behavior from NK and it specifies no intent on the part of N K to imperil talks.

From the article

“Experts say it is not an intention to break the talks but rather a “last minute fight” that tries to keep internal ties and lose the initiative in negotiations”

IOW, the Koreans are trying to reposition themselves to give the appearance of dealing from a position of more strength.

Trump actually warned about this and weeks ago said if the NK engaged in any of their past insincere behavior he was willing to walk away from the table and ratchet up the sanctions.

These are all negotiable. What’s needed is a schedule of this for that. We loosen sanctions, they return some political prisoners, We bring in some South Korean companies to rebuild infrastructure, they prove they have significantly reduced arms, etc.

What we do not do is offer them cash, materials that can be used to make nuclear weapons or allow a worsening of treatment for political dissidents. Everything else, we use to negotiate a peaceful return to the community of nations. They have a very long way to go.

Oh, believe me, this behavior far predates ANYONE in Pyongyang reading his book. This is endemic of the Kim Dynasty, Il-sung, Jong-il, Jong-un. All of them. Anyone could have seen it coming.

Link to South Korean TV just now showing North's statement and new threat:

Yep. The sanctions are actually being enforced this time. They’ll back down.

No kidding. Yet wasn’t Kim Jong Un so charming as he stepped across the border and shook hands with Moon in the JSA at Panmunjom?? It mean it was so ‘historrrrricccc!”, fantastic and unprecedented, right? (sic) That’s what many naive voices proclaimed not even a fortnight ago.

Rockey Boy thinks Trump is so desperate for a Nobel Prize he’ll blink and cave in.

Trump will cancel the summit and walk away if the North Koreans on their promise to denucleaerize the peninsula.

This President means business and until the North Koreans fully internalize it, the campaign of maximum pressure will be maintained.

Trump isn’t going to do for North Korea what Obama did for Iran. Wait and watch. North Korea is not in any shape to dictate to the US what to do.

Correct. Concur fully. Removing UN sanctions as a precondition to just even TALK about giving up nukes is a non starter and the US would be idiotic to give on this point—everyone saw it coming. But then, to stand our ground will risk having the North walk away from a deal, even if a sham deal...and then what of the Nobel Peace Prize which is the most valuable thing here at hand??

With dictators, people can’t let themselves be fooled.

We knew the North Korean regime would be back to its old tricks in a matter of time.

That’s why we have not made a single concession.

Kim Jong Un is choosing... poorly.
