Are people with old cans in violation of the law and facing a federal charge for using one at a gas station?

Are people at risk of a federal “trafficking” charge for selling an old gas can from paw paw’s garage and yard sale?

I have seen CHP in filling stations citing people if they have the old cans and fill them or a new can modified with a vent. One officer became very upset with me when I asked if this is what he imagined himself doing when he first attended the academy. You will also be cited if you fill a 55 gallon drum with fuel. this used to be a common transport but will get you red tagged now with the wrong officer.

I own 2 older vehicles. a 1976 Chevy 1 ton dually truck & a 1979 Buick station wagon.

I CAN NOT use the new cans because the ‘dog leg’ nozzle won’t properly connect into my fuel openings. I ONLY have the older cans.

I am frankly very tired of all the idiots declaring that everything I own should be or is illegal.
