First, we have the threat of a new tax on internet sales even when the company in question has no physical presence in the state.

Too late, at least in California. Amazon has been slapping on California sales tax on purchases made out of state for a few years now.

Amazon already takes out state sales tax for stuff I order. Are you saying the state where Amazon or the merchant will also have to pay a tax to that state?

I think it’s fair for a state to require sales tax to be paid to the state on things ordered from out of the state. Either that or eliminate the sales tax in the state.
