WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump will not travel to Israel for the controversial opening of the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem, according to a White House statement released on Monday.
Instead, the U.S. delegation to the May 14 event will include U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, as well as Trumps son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and daughter Ivanka Trump, who work as advisers to the president in the White House.

I don’t blame him. Security is going to be a nightmare anyway, without adding the protection of a sitting US President.
It seems like the perfect storm is brewing for next week. On top of everything else, May 15 is the first day of Ramalamadingdong/Ramadan.
Bookmarked.
But he made it happen. Just like he said he would.
Of course, we have had OTHER Presidents say they would do things and follow through...like bankrupting the coal industry in the country...
Mark Levin will be there.
It is for the best that Trump does not attend that ceremony.
The site of the Embassy opening will be a prime target for many different groups. It’s good that ‘Javanka’ can attend.
for the controversial
A phrase seen in every single news article about the Trump administration, and many other stories as well, whether they are truly controversial or not.
First President who did what he said he would do.
Past Presidents didn't even try.
If President Trump descended to the embassy site on a chariot made of clouds, the media would still find some groundless, brainless criticism. Thanks SeekAndFind.
It’s just as well. He’s got other fish to fry. Democrat Senators up for reelection should be publicly INVITED to attend. Go with Pence.
Where are the SOS and V.P.?
I thought the SOS was proper protocol.
This a big thing imho.
5.56mm
Bummer.
I think having Trump there would be too significant of an enticing target. A lot of bad actors would likely consider this their grandest achievement of blowing up the US Embassy in Jerusalem with Netanyahu and Trump. Not worth the risk.
Mnuchen is expendable (or perhaps drew the short straw).
Hope he changes his mind or its fake news.
I Promised!!
Always a Friend, DJT
“I dont blame him. Security is going to be a nightmare anyway, without adding the protection of a sitting US President.”
I agree.
Hmm...May 14th, the day the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem is inaugurated, is also the 70th anniversary of the proclaiming of the State of Israel. A most auspicious day, indeed.
But the very next day is the first of Ramalamadingdong, which will kick off a month’s worth of bombings, murderings, riots & other assorted Islamic civic activities.
Disappointed that DJT won’t be there but it’s probably for the best. Right now Gaza is the world’s biggest fire ant mound, and the Pallies might try to breach the border wall this time. Will require IDF bulldozers to bury them all.
He will probably be most readily available to defense without attending the opening. He probably does wish that he could be in Jerusalem for that.
