Thank you, I cannot comprehend how anyone could disagree. In fact it cannot be otherwise. One need only reflect on how a dinner that has one person salivating in anticipation of a wonderful experience can cause another person to vomit at the thought of eating it. Events mean nothing alone, it is our evaluation of those events that “trigger” emotion. What the professor sees as racism may have nothing at all to do with race in reality. Some people are like Humpty-Dumpty, when they use a word it can only mean what they choose, no more and no less.

And, as Dr. Ellis tells us, sometimes those evaluations take place so quickly we don’t even notice we’re doing it. More often than most of us would think, they are based on things we don’t even know we believe.
