In the race for California governor, two Republicans have shunned the center and are running to the right in a bloody fight for a segment of the electorate that loves President Donald Trump and loathes Democrats who have proudly committed to being his foil.
Democrats dominate Californias government and far outnumber Republicans in the state. But Assemblyman Travis Allen and businessman John Cox havent altered their messages to try to appeal to them in a June 5 primary where every registered voter can cast a ballot for any candidate.
Eight years ago California voters rewrote the states election laws so that the top two finishers in the primary, regardless of party, advance to the general election in November. It was pitched as a way to give moderates a path to victory, but in this race the Democrats are running to the left and the Republicans to the right.
Cox and Allen went at each other repeatedly in Tuesday nights debate in San Jose that also included the four leading Democratic candidates. The conflict between the Republicans became heated enough that moderator Chuck Todd of NBC News quipped that they should take their battle outside.
Allen called Cox my angry opponent from Chicago, a reference to his native city that many Republicans identify with crime and Democratic corruption. Cox called Allen my young immature opponent. They talked over each other and Allen accused Cox of lying in a dispute about how Allen voted on a 2013 bill that granted drivers licenses to people living in the country illegally.

Love it.
If the GOP come out 1-2 in the jungle primary system, CA would get a conservatuve pro-Trump governor in November to replace term-limited Jerry “Moonbeam” Brown.
What a hoot! A law liberals wrote to ensure their grip over the state government may end up backfiring on them.
Love it if it happens!
The more conservative positions they hold, the better they’ll do.
Republicans are running for CA governor? Why?
Especially if both beat out the communist Democrats.
So far only Democrats have finished 1-2 but this could change.
The new system would allow a GOP conservative to win in a Democrat state if both should come out ahead in the jungle primary.
That democrat vote would have to be spread extremely thin in that state.
Good point.
If there’s no Democrat on the general election ballot, doesn’t matter.
This jungle primary was supposed to elect moderates. Hasn’t worked as intended.
We have the same system in Washington state.
Almost every election in King County (Seattle) is between two Democrats, which is exactly what they planned.
The people of CA gave up on freedom and liberty so long ago that they remain in chains.
My-oh-my, this is soooo cynical.
(As a once and former Cali resident, and a Cali 'native', I believe it to be completely correct, however. Imagine having a statewide race with no GOPers on the ballot. I do not miss my once-Golden state.)
.
And you think the vote counters would allow that to happen?
Good luck.
The guy who brought it to California was Maldanado , a 'republican'. You know, just like the late John McCain was a 'Republican'.
eing on the ground here in Southern California (Chino Hills) I can tell you a lot of people here are fed up with runaway taxes, higher cost for everything, rampant homeless dopers everywhere (we have them in Chino Hills now!). They are sick of the illegals trashing everywhere they go. They are fed up with the gangs.
Every statewide elected office is held by a Democrat. The state senate and assembly is controlled by the Democrats. There is no Republican to blame for all this.
This state is dying for change. Republicans have not run a bonefied Conservative in long time. So this state may be ready for a Conservative leader.
I am certain the populous counties of San Diego, Orange, San Bernardino, Riverside and Ventura will go solidly Republican this year. I think the far eastern portion and far northern portion of LA County go Republican too. I think around 53-55% of the vote.
The inland valley counties (Kern, Inyo, Fresno, Merced, King counties) will go Republican by a little bit higher margins.
But here is where the problem. The populous Northern California counties (Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, San Mataeo, Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, Santa Rosa, Sonoma, Napa) will continue to go heavily Democratic (by 70 to 85%). Southern and Central California will have to go solidly Republican to off set the loonies up north.
I told the story of the change from King (Rufus King) to King County (MLK) to some business associates from Pasco, Washington. Two of them had never heard of that change.
One of them needs to drop out and being that Cox voted for Gary Johnson I think it should be him.
You dont have a chance. The northern counties will crush you with voter fraud.
Its too late. Your only option is to get out.
