My 2015 Honda Fit is actually one of the more safe small cars out there. According to EuroNCAP crash testing, the current model Fit (known as the Jazz in Europe) is vastly safer than most larger cars of even ten years ago. We forget Honda has one of the most advanced crash test facilities in the world at their test facility in Japan.

Safe crashing into a wall or another vehicle that isn’t higher than the beltline. I agree the airbag and crumple zone technology is amazing for those type of impacts.

BUT it does nothing to prevent you from being run over or decapitated by a much higher vehicle. Roof pillars are nothing versus something like a dumptruck and they can never be designed to handle that much mass.

A heavier vehicle with the same safety technology will always be safer than a lighter one. It’s simple physics that a heavier vehicle will reduce the forces on the occupants when all other things in the accident are equal.
