House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) dodged some questions Thursday on whether she would tell Democrats to vote for making middle class tax cuts in the GOP tax reform bill permanent.
The moderator referenced Republicans planning a vote to make the middle class tax cuts permanent, asking are you going to tell Democrats for or against doing that?
Rather than responding directly, Pelosi bashed Republicans for not making the tax cuts permanent in the first place.
Well you see, heres what this is since were having a budget meeting, Pelosi began. The reason they didnt make them permanent in the first place was because they were operating under reconciliation and under reconciliation they could only have so much addition to the debt.
So thats why in their priorities, they chose corporate America over middle class families, because they couldnt do both, she continued.
Maybe they just have something about the middle class that they werent going to give them a good deal but nonetheless they didnt have the ability to do so, she mused.
How will Democrats vote on that? the moderator followed up on extending the middle class tax cuts.
With all due respect, you never know what theyre going to do, Pelosi replied of Republicans, saying Im not going to be here talking about things that they may or may not do because we just dont know.
These remarks come less than a week after Pelosi admitted it was accurate that she wanted to raise taxes by rolling back the Republican tax cuts.
Prior to that, Pelosi has repeatedly dismissed bonuses resulting from tax reform as crumbs.
She needs to retire like yesterday, she's really making a fool of herself.
Evil old communist.
They’re just “crumbs” anyhow.
FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponents Argument
Legislative actions are not permanent; just wait until after next election. So the idea of permanent tax cuts is meaningless.
On the other hand, a previous generation of state sovereignty-respecting Supreme Court justices had clarified Congresss limited power to appropriate taxes which is permanent, depending possibly on new amendments to the Constitution.
"Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States."Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
In other words, noting that Im a Trump supporter, Pelosi would probably be disappointed to find out that Trumps tax cut barely put a dent into unconstitutional federal taxes imo, taxes that the corrupt, post-17th Amendment ratification Congress cannot justify under its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers.
Support Free Republic, Folks!
Of course Pelosi wants to rescind the tax cuts and add more taxes against American Citizens. She and her Buddies in congress don’t give a rat’s @$$ about us. Just themselves and the money they can take from us and put into their own pockets. And the DemonRATS have been doing this for DECADES!!!!!
Democrats will raise your taxes and impeach your president. Pelosi’s message should motivate the biggest turn out of Republicans in the history of off-year elections.
Their main platform points are those two, plus unfettered immigration and arming Iran with nuclear weapons.
She wants to take away those crumbs from the very people that need them. Go ahead Nancy, continue to be the idiot you always have been.
