CHICAGO -- Former U.S. Rep. Mel Reynolds of Illinois is headed back to prison for a third time in his ill-fated career after a federal judge sentenced him Thursday to six months behind bars for failing to file tax returns.
The sentence handed down by U.S. District Judge Robert Gettleman marked the end of a nearly three-year legal saga that has seen the former Democratic congressman jailed for violating bond, accused by prosecutors of launching a smear campaign on social media and reprimanded by two judges for failing to abide by the court's rules.
Reynolds, 66, who acted as his own attorney, kept his hands clasped behind his back and showed no outward reaction to the sentence. In his remarks to the court, he touted his service to the country, telling the judge he'd been unfairly painted by prosecutors as disrespectful of America and the judicial system.
"I'm still the kid who gets choked up when he hears 'The Star-Spangled Banner,' " Reynolds said.
Speaking to reporters after the hearing, however, Reynolds said he was "done with America" and planned to move back to South Africa with his daughter as soon as he completed his sentence. He sounded a familiar refrain in claiming that the case against him was motivated at least in part by a racist judicial system.

In these kinds of situations the judge should give him the chance to forego the prison sentence entirely in exchange for a prepaid ticket to where ever he wants to go and a six YEAR sentence if he ever returns.
I would be happy to trade his jail sentence for a one-way ticket to a country of his choosing. Just make sure we confiscate his passport and put him on the no entry list.

Who says they’ll take him. Are we not having the same problem with illegals crossing our southern border that end up in our jails much more than they should? Would you take him? I wouldn’t. He gets back on the plane to anywhere else.

I thought of this word, had to look it for spelling, and found this quote that describes Reynolds: “Hey! You scobberlotcher! Thy vile canker-blossom’d countenance curdles milk and sours beer!”.
LA has many vile and ugly faces from the Follywooders to its rat pols like Mad Max.
The liberals in control of Gay Frisco, Sillycon Valley, Oakland and Sacramento are not far behind their LA peers!
And yet no one asks why we dont have a proper definition of NBC, 2 citizen parents on sovereign soil, or why we continue to allow non-NBCs to run for any elected federal position. No more Malkenyans, no more Cubnadians, no more Mexicans, South Africans or anyone else other than NBCs. This needs to be fixed first thing by the new congress under Trumps second administration.
