Rent control clamor is all over California. Its another way they steal from the landlords.
Some people make it work, but it seems like a suckers game to me.]
The government wants to force private business out of it so they can take over.
Rent control is indeed a sucker’s game. The very lucky few tenants stay forever because they know if they move their rent will soar in a new place. The landlord can’t increase rent to match his operating cost increases, so he lets the places deteriorate. They get old and run down. Nothing new gets built - what sane builder would want to build in an area where he’ll be locked down on rent hikes down the road.
Rent control is the ultimate way to truly avoid any “justice” as you have the “very lucky class” that have a cheap apartment and the vast majority of the “unlucky class” that have to pay higher-than-normal rents for other apartments. There’s absolutely no justice in that.
