Former U.S. Rep. Mel Reynolds is headed back to jail, but for a short enough time — four months — that he said hopes to be living in Africa by Christmas.
“I’m done with America. I’m going to do this, and I’m going home — to Africa. … I’ve given up on America,” Reynolds told reporters after U.S. District Judge Robert Gettleman sentenced him to six months imprisonment for his failure to file income tax returns.
“It’s really a tragedy you’ve squandered the opportunities you’ve had and the type of person you could have been,” the judge told Reynolds.
Reynolds, whose amazing rise from poverty to become a Rhodes Scholar, Harvard grad and then congressman was matched by an equally amazing fall from grace during the 1990s, had sought probation.

In these kinds of situations the judge should give him the chance to forego the prison sentence entirely in exchange for a prepaid ticket to where ever he wants to go and a six YEAR sentence if he ever returns.
And not just any old white guy. Cecil Rhodes was the founder of the country of Rhodesia.
And we should consider a Crowd Source campaign to buy him a one-way ticket to the country of his choice. (The only caveat being that it has to be a country that has been described by our president as something akin to an excrement pit.)

This guy was that black ivy league graduate that was supposed to do so well if only he could get an ivy league education. He got it. He then cheated on his wife with a young teenager. He then broke every law he could find and escaped to Africa to run guns and drugs. Then Africa put him in jail. America saved his butt. And he of course keeps breaking laws. He needs to go back to that African jail where he belongs.
