Time for Europe to Join the Resistance
der Spiegel ^ | May 11th, 2018 | by Klaus Brinkbäumer

Posted on 05/11/2018 1:10:21 PM PDT by Mariner

Trump's renown is rooted in American hero myths. Trump says that women like Carla Bruni lust after him, something that women like Carla Bruni vehemently deny. Trump says he is exorbitantly rich, yet Trump ran himself into the ground with his casinos to the point that he was 295 million dollars in debt in 1990. He was bailed out by the banks and by his father. The greatest myth, though, has to do with Trump's alleged negotiating expertise. This too is nonsense. Trump was never proficient in the art of the deal. As a businessman, he paid far too much for substandard properties and has shown no patience as a politician. He isn't curious. His preparation is nonexistent. Strategy and tactics are both foreign to him. Trump is only proficient in destruction. And that's what he does.

He backed out of the Paris climate agreement while promising a "better deal for America." But nothing came of the promise, neither a plan nor meaningful talks. In Trump's Washington, the only thing that matters is dismantling the legacy of his predecessor, Barack Obama. Trump also promised to improve Obama's health care plan, but the details are complex and bothersome. So Trump destroyed Obamacare and has done nothing to replace it.

Now, he is playing the same game on the world stage with the Iran nuclear deal. Trump refers to it as "the worst deal ever," which is why he has now pulled the U.S. out of it. The negotiations that resulted in the deal in 2015 were a masterpiece of international diplomacy, but there are no plans in place to launch new talks.

Not only was it unsigned, Congress took the unusual step to send out a congressional letter warning Iran after Obama’s antics that this was not a treaty and could be invalidated at any time.

I dont know when the Huns were whining more:

when Trump said he wanted to reduce NATO

or now when they are trying to convince themselves that getting out of NATO and an EU alliance with Iran and Russia... is a better deal

And yet Klaus, he’s President of the United States, and you’re just a typist for the Time Magazine of Germany.

“Klaus Brinkbäumer”

Heil Hitler, Klaus! Let’s see just how Krautenstein makes out when Trump’s sanctions, together with pulling our troops out of your country work out for you! Maybe the Ruskies and/or the Chinese will by your Nazi Thunderbirds (read Mercedes).

Maybe we should have stayed out of Europe’s politics in WWI & WWII.

They have their Islam problem creating the setting for WWIII.

"Trump says he is exorbitantly rich, yet Trump ran himself into the ground with his casinos to the point that he was 295 million dollars in debt in 1990. He was bailed out by the banks and by his father. "

Did banks help Donald Trump? If so, then why? Did Trump negotiate with the banks or did they just like Donald Trump.

The premise is Donald Trump isn't a good negotiator yet got Banks to bail him out. Note, Banks don't loan money for love!

Yawn. This article reads like a list of the claims that Democrats and their forum bots tried to spread around during the campaign. Mostly lies, or elements of truth that are so twisted out of context that they bear no resemblance to reality.

At least, that’s how the first couple of sentences read. I did not get further than that.

Yup, time for all those in NATO to "pay their fair share" in addition to spending more on their own individual military's so that we can spend less, much less, on being their protectors.

Let's see how much their socialists spending priorities change then!

Europe is as dead as a chicken with it’s head cut off. Still running around and flapping it’s wings but dead none the less.

Being lectured to by the folks who gave us Uncle Adolf and two world wars about “hero worship” is hysterical.

Better yet, let’s tell Europe to defend themselves, completely.

They need us far more than we need them.

Gosh we’re terribly sorry that you Yurps won’t be getting Uncle Sugar to fork over massive amounts of cash to 3rd worlders to pay for “global warming”. Looks like you’ll need to handle that one for yourselves.

Also, its a damn shame you’re going to have to choose in many cases between the mullah’s blood money and doing business with America. No doubt that represents some lost profits to help pay for your socialism.

Don’t count on another $100 billion of US taxpayer money to help pay for your bank bailouts like Obama gave you.

As for Nato....Trump is right. Its time you pony up the cash to pay for the 2% of GDP to defense you promised OR its time for America to withdraw. You can start paying for your own defense for a change.

I know all of this will cost you money and make it difficult to keep paying for all of your socialism but - that’s not America’s problem.

I love, love LOVE pointing out especially to Germans how proud we are of German-Americans who have contributed so much to making America great.....German Americans like Rumsfeld and Trump! (the looks on their faces when I mention those names are priceless).

I see a great deal of sneering contempt in this article but not a lot of facts. One argument they do make is that Iran discards weak politicians so they will not give in. In truth, it appears to me as though Iran may be considering discarding politicians in the current mold since they seem to be hearkening back to the age of the shahs. It does seem as though nothing good has been delivered to the Iranian people by these guys. Just a whole lot of fear, smear, and ordering everyone around.

In any event, the Iranian regime has only been around since around 1980. It may well be that leadership via blaming other people every time something goes wrong might be wearing on the nerves of the average Iranian.

It is a non-starter for any kind of negotiation to say that one side is exempt from compromise because they are just too unreasonable. That is especially true, since this writer is accusing Trump of being unreasonable, while in the same breath, taking it as a fait accompli that the Iranian government is this way. It’s an odd bit of reasoning in a sea of bile.

I use another tactic. Saying we need to
pull out of NATO. Usually met with silence.

Well, Europe is more in range for Iran than the U.S.A.

Just saying. Keep those “Iran Deal” hopes alive, der Spiegel.
