Leading politicians in Denmark were broadly critical of the announcement on Tuesday by President Donald Trump that the United States would violate the Iran nuclear deal.

In a statement at the White House on Tuesday, Trump said the US would “exit the Iran deal” agreed with other major powers in 2015, and warned that “any nation that helps Iran in its quest for nuclear weapons could be strongly sanctioned”.

The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), also known as the Iran nuclear deal, was agreed in 2015 between Iran, the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council plus Germany, and the European Union.

Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen tweeted shortly after Trump’s announcement that Denmark “continues to support the Iran deal, contingent on Iran’s strict compliance,” adding the agreement was “important for non-proliferation and regional security.” The PM, who has previously sought to cultivate good relations with Washington, did not mention the United States or Trump directly.

Foreign Minister Anders Samuelsen […] added that Denmark was “not naïve” on Iran. “From a Danish and European point of view, we want to maintain the agreement, provided the IAEA [International Atomic Energy Agency, ed.] verifies Iranian compliance. But we are certainly not naïve when it comes to Iran,” he said. …

Denmark continues to support the pact, based on Iran’s strict compliance with its terms.

And who, exactly, is going to monitor said compliance? Denmark?

The exiting UN chief of nuclear inspections had been on the job for almost five years. His last job was head of the Finland government office for nuclear safety. Oddly, it’s reported by twenty-odd sources...but all outside of the US.

“Europe” was always like this. The point is to not let them get any more powerful.

Denmark is only 4% mohammedan. Not too late at all.

And they’re actively looking for ways to make that number smaller.

Well, there they go calling Netanyahu a liar again. France already did that, too. Typical out of the Euro-socialists.

Any agreement without signature is not binding and unenforceable.

Reminds me of a saying “ handshakes are for friends, contracts are enforceable in Court”
