Torture worked on JM. The UCMJ (or other regulations) requires that a POW give only his name, rank and Id #. He gave more than that per the articles. Confessing to non crimes gives enemy propaganda value. Don’t know if he gave up useful intel. His “claim to fame” is that he refused parole and stayed with his men in captivity until the end. Very honorable and deserving of recognition. Been through SERE training. Not going to be a hero, would not likely been able to handle the real deal.
