The National Rifle Association's annual convention last weekend cost Dallas police $575,000, the city manager said on Thursday.
The NRA spent $150,000 on 400 off-duty officers who patrolled the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center and its perimeter starting last Thursday through Sunday.
Dallas' $575,000 bill includes security and traffic control for rallies, protests and President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence's visit to Dallas to speak at the convention, City Manager T.C. Broadnax said.

This is rather interesting. I worked the one, last year, in Atlanta. Most of the cops in and around the Georgia World Congress Center were working off-duty. They were either getting paid directly from the NRA, the World Congress Center or whatever other facility/location was having an event. All of those costs are rolled up in the bill that the NRA pays to each.
There was a protest last year in Atlanta, albeit a very small one. The police just shuffled some shifts around with discretionary units and everything was okay. So, I’d love to see the books on this and how the cops were allocated.
And as many have already said, I’d LOVE to see the amount of tax revenue brought in with all the hotel, restaurants, and bar tabs that were generated during the weekend.
“The bill arrived, and here’s how much the NRA convention and Trump visit cost Dallas police”
And the point is?
So what if Dallas saved money when President Kennedy visited.
87,154 people. Each spending hundreds of dollars in Dallas over the weekend.
The sales tax revenues on just their meals MORE than paid for the police. Add the hotel tax revenues, and the city got a huge profit from the event.
“Naheed Rajwani “
Well that sho’ does sound like a “Son of Texas” name now don’t it! Now I’ll bet you that that elephant rider don’t have a cattle ranch.
Probably has cousins that hand make AKs up near the Injuh Paki border. ;-)
The new talking point is that everywhere President Trump goes, it costs money.
Security censorship.
So, Dallas spent under $600,000 in order to have a convention come to town with tens of thousands of people who rented hotel rooms, ate food out, bought gifts for loved ones, etc, etc. How much did Dallas as a city, and the residents of Dallas, and the businesses in Dallas benefit from the convention? I would bet that it was at least to the tune of 10 million dollars.
Seems like a pretty good investment to me. Only other morons complain about this.
Utter, not other
How much does it cost when they allow leftwing demonstrations to go on? Eh? we never hear the figures.
If conventions are costing Dallas too much money they can prohibit them. How about that?
Oh, it’s much worse than just “allowing.” No mention is made in the article of the fact that the Dallas mayor and city officials were encouraging protests and anti-NRA sentiment for months before the convention. I’d like to know how much the drove up security costs.
Yeah, unless they also post the amount of revenue generated, its just bs.
I’m always suspicious of government cost claims. What did Dallas pay over and above what it would normally would’ve spent on policing for that period? That additional amount is the real cost.
Michelle the kids and her mother cost us a hell of a lot more!
More than that.
Try several hundred spread between the advance team and the individual protection details for zero, chewbacca, slasher, malaria, the mother in law, val-jar, the dog, etc.
That is astounding. Gag.
I think the costs they incurred can be laid directly at the feet of leftists.
Exactly - paid for itself several times over. And they didn’t have the huge cleanup required after a Left-Wing event....
