In 2008, the 0bama campaign unleashed a virtual army of internet trolls upon the comment section of every online news outlet. I remember seeing pages of comments posted by these people about how McCain had had cancer, and how they hoped that he would die before the election. They also said other even more vile things about him, and Palin. I don’t recall anyone expressing outrage about those comments. No one called upon 0bama to rebuke his paid internet trolls. No one called out the democrat party. The only difference now is that it is all part of the media’s attempt to abnormalize EVERYTHING associated with the Trump administration, and attempt to destroy everyone who serves the administration in any way.
McCain has earned every biting criticism that comes his way.
He intentionally insults, provokes and antagonizes conservatives and republicans while he snuggles up to liberals.
The “Maverick” built his career on it.
If McCain every truly did “reach across the aisle” he would have had to reach from the left to the right; from his position as the democrats favorite RINO reaching toward conservatives.
But that never happened and never will happen.
He knows that he has no true credibility with conservatives.
That is why he had to bring Sarah Palin on board his fruitless presidential campaign.
Millions of conservatives who would otherwise have stayed home on election came out to vote for Sarah, not John McCain.
And she came darn near winning the election for him in spite of being sidelined and undermined by his staff.
And to honor her as a parting gesture he finishes throwing her under the bus by blaming her for his election loss.

That McCain story spread like wildfire to mask the big news of the day. That afternoon the President had announced his program to reduce he cost of medications - a complete alpha to omega change in the system eliminating middlemen and lobbyists from the system. That was the big news taken from the airwaves by the McCain story - purposely!
