Let's not misread the Alabama election last December.
It all came down to turnout.
Here's the results form the Pres Election, Nov 20126:
And the Dec 2017 Special Senate Race:
As you can see, the Trump voters NEVER came out.
Hell, less democrat votes for Doug Jones than Hillary.
The reason so many Alabama Republicans didn't come out to vote was the smear campaign against Moore about the underage or very young women crap.
This had a profound effect on evangelical voters.
They wouldn't say out loud, at least, that the charges disturbed them. But they did, and by not voting, they washed their hands of Roy Moore.
What I find most profound, that leaves me angry to this day?
The Roy Moore accusers all disappeared the day after the election. Not only was the lawsuits stopped, but any story again about them in the media.
Clearly, the driveby's won. Just like with Herman Cain, but not Donald Trump, who is--IMHO--protected by Heavenly Forces.
Turnout is the issue. The Dems have been receiving greater turnouts across the board since 2016, even in their losses.
You can't compare the turnout in a presidential election with an off-year Senate special election. That said, look at the votes for Jones compared to Hillary--674K to 730K. Truly amazing under the circumstances. The Dems over-performed dramatically while the Reps under-performed.
The Reps will regain the seat in 2020, but the damage has been done. Moore was a bad choice regardless of the damage done to him by the MSM. The Reps shot themselves in the foot.
Clearly, the driveby’s won. Just like with Herman Cain, but not Donald Trump, who is—IMHO—protected by Heavenly Forces.

Let's not misread the Alabama election last December.What many appear to miss or overlook is the fact that the Turtle has been active in the Alabama election by putting up large amounts of $$$ for negative commercials on the North Alabama Congress critter (Is he a member of the Freedom Caucus?)
The Turtle did the same in WV by supporting the former Dem, recently turned Rep. (Jenkins) in that primary. The Turtle is using the same methodology as Soros in the campaigns he has personal interest in.
