Letterman and his sidekicks were very funny back in the 1980s, before he got mean and bitter. The skits and banter with Paul Shaffer, Chris Elliott, Biff Henderson, Larry “Bud” Melman, Brother Theodore and Letterman’s take on the absurd aspects of life in New York City were funny. I don’t recall any (or very little) political humor back then, i.e., anti-Reagan stuff.

Yes. He was a hoot in the early days of Late Night. His supporting cast was hilarious. Remember Larry “Bud” Melman and Chris Elliot as Big Man and The Guy Under The Seats? Then Letterman’s head began to swell.
