Now is the time to play out the second amendment politically in a way to make interference by the federal courts even more difficult.
No doubt some Democrat Congressman has or can be persuaded to introduce a constitutional amendment repealing the second amendment in the House. Ryan can immediately bring it up for a vote. It will be defeated. Even many Democrats will have to vote to defeat repeal during an election year. Likely the vote against repeal will be a substantial majority.
This will put Congress on the record as to supporting the 2nd Amendment and against repeal. This fact can then be used by pro 2nd amendment attorneys in every gun control case before the federal courts for decades to come. When liberal attorneys argue the federal government can place restrictions on gun ownership, pro 2nd amendment attorneys can argue the language of the 2nd Amendment is very explicit. Without repeal the wording and intent of the amendment cannot be altered by Congress or the courts. In fact, Congress has the opportunity to vote for repeal of the amendment at any time and submit it to the states for ratification. When repeal was put before Congress, it was voted down. The law is the law.
