Actually Dachshunds have been known to have snippy attitudes. And the 40 lbs doesn’t have to be all Dachshund - they are obviously mutts. Possibly other types give the extra size.
Only one was claimed as a Border cross, and the issue with Borders is they are extremely intense (my aunt is nuts about them as working dogs - I know) and I’d say a bit tense, as if waiting for something to happen.
Anyway, most were claimed “terrier” mixes - and there is intensity and tenacity. Never mind if they were pit-bull terrier types as a poster believes.
But 7 dogs - yes, I could see SOMETHING happening that disadvantaged her, especially since that is quite a pack. Maybe she fell as a result and broke something and could not get up - and was bitten on critical arteries.
