The far Left just wants to destroy everything good about our country and culture.

Apparently, there isn’t anything that fits that category.

Sorry, I answered before I realized It was you :-(

When it comes to horse racing, especially, you would be well advised not to try to tell me something you think I do not know. I plan to attend my 53rd CONSECUTIVE Belmont Stakes in June.

I could hardly stand to watch the Derby. With that packed field and wet track, I was sure a horse would get injured.

No.

He is not a superhorse. Lately these horses can’t even crack a 110 BSF. Something’s actually wrong, not super.

And I agree about the c.50 years thing. But the horse may only be a yearling now.

When was Justify foaled?

The super-great-invincible Man O’War was foaled March 29.

Secretariat March 30.

Seems they have to have similar birthdays too.

“It might have something to do with the fact that most horses run on the drug Lasix these days.”

I think it’s more to do with PETA-hippie type crybabiness.

Everything has gone downhill since the ‘60s, and horse-racing is no exception.

“We might hurt them!!!”

Look at claimers - they use Lasix but are still being run quite frequently. The “best” have become hot-house flowers.

hes only raced 4 times ever...and hes accomplished quite alot...that was one of the all time gutsy Derby performances ever..against maybe the deepest field ever. Time will tell with this guy, but so far, skys the limit. Probably wont happen, but id love to see him race as a 4 year old.

its a disaster waiting to happen..its a miracle they havent had one yet. There is talk of capping the field at 12 horses like the Breeders Cup Classic. This sport is in dire shape...people simply wont put up with horses being injured. Ive been a life long fan...but i simply cant stand to see the accidents. I know that they lose more off the track..at the farms, than they do racing, but its still awful. This sport never fully recovered after what happened to Ruffian in 1975..it is getting better..theres been alot of changes to the whips and their use..plus, they are starting to ultra sound all 4 limbs just prior to the race...NO EXCEPTIONS. It can be such an amazing sporting event..yet also the worst too...

That’s amazing!

I just attended my 16th consecutive Derby. But, I’m pretty sure I won’t make it to anywhere near 53.

Do you think Justify can hold up for a mile and a half ?

I guess your question really is: Assuming Justify wins the Preakness, can he also win the Belmont?

Anything is possible, but most horses, especially recently, that win the Derby and the Preakness do NOT win the Belmont. IMHO, Justify would be the most likely winner of the Belmont but a definite bet-against because of the odds.

Claimers may run more often than Stakes horses but just scanning some PPs I have left over from the Keeneland Spring Meet, I'd say three weeks is the usual minimum.

I just happen to remember (fondly!) a bottom level claimer named Bullyampa that ran in NY back in the 60s. He ran on September 27, 1967, the date of the great race (The Woodward) that featured Buckpasser, Damascus and Dr. Fager. I have the PPs from that day. Bullyampa was making his fifth start in September!

14. 14 is standard limit because of starting gate capacity.

Blaming Ruffian is naive. Starting in the ‘70s people do not identify with horses. People who actually used them in their daily lives had died off, and their children who heard about it were getting older. The next gen had zero identification with horses and the downturn in attendance coincides with that.

People far overrate Ruffian in multiple ways, including this. She is not the reason people turned away from racing. It’s because people could no longer identify with the horse.

My experience around here in MD is they can run weekly, definitely 2weeks.

Not that it was unusual in his day, but one of the great things about Man o’War was his schedule. He had 2 days between stakes once as a 2yo and raced often with about 10 days between, even as a 3yo. At 2 he ran at Saratoga every week, and twice as 3yo (4wk-meet). Never mind his record-setting rate as a 3yo or the fact every race but his maiden was a stake race.
