European Union Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker announced Thursday that the bloc plans to reactivate a law that would seek to block European companies from complying with any sanctions the US would reintroduce against Iran.
Junckers announcement came during the second day of an EU meeting in the Bulgarian capital, Sofia, which had already been marked by sharp criticism from European leaders over American President Donald Trumps decision to pull the US out of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal. [ ]
German-headquartered insurance firm Allianz and Danish shopping company Maersk have already said they plan to close operations in Iran in order to avoid getting hit by reintroduced US sanctions.
The 1996 legislation leaves it up to each EU member state to determine the sanctions to be imposed in the event of breach of any relevant provisions of this Regulation, adding that such sanctions must be effective, proportional and dissuasive.
European companies with large operations in the US are putting pressure on their governments to grant them individual waivers.

EU
Do you REALLY think you have the stones to pull this off?
You where the middle class, such as it is, has a refrigerator the size of a USA dorm room beer fridge, a kitchen smaller than the average USA guest bathroom and so few people own cars that you can charge exorbitant amounts for gasoline all to pay for a tax?
And if we pull our military out and say “tine to pay for your own defense” you would crap your drawers so hard it would be heard all the way to Jupiter.
Do you REALLY want to go nose-to-nose with a POTUS who LOVES going nose-to-nose?
Do ya?
the eu plans on it’s own military. US to drop nato with no reciprocal agreement.
Since that is a stated goal of the EU going back decades, they would rejoice at that. Their current tactic is to starve the US military so that it will pull out and then they redouble funding on the EU military, which is being built steadily and quietly by the Bundeswehr taking over command of the military forces of other EU countries right now, not to mention the EU military headquarters that has already been established.
And if we pull our military out and say tine to pay for your own defense you would crap your drawers so hard it would be heard all the way to Jupiter.
Well, blocking the GE-Honeywell merger was one instance of the EU dictating to the USA with respect to business deals. Bad precedent, that was.
EU is openly funding terror.
Odd. /s
All US troops out of the EU.
Threats to Israel are largely a deliberate distraction by Iran. Once they work out all the bugs with their nuclear tipped ICBM arsenal, the first cities blackmailed with nuclear destruction will be the likes of Berlin, Paris, and Rome.
Then let these bastards defend themselves. No more US shield over Europe.
FTEU, they are a bunch of ungrateful Fascists spiraling down the hellhole.
That’s one of the things that they want. Not a good idea to give such connivers such a thing if they want it that badly.
The US should simply reduce it's contributions to equal the lowest percentage from any EU country.
The funding would either increase quickly or the NATO would slowly disappear, which maybe a good thing.
We should also be contacting Mercedes, BMW and VW and Siemens to let them know their product won’t be bought in the U.S.
