More than 20 prominent figures in the conservative movement plan to send an open letter to Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), urging the Freedom Caucus member to declare himself a candidate for Speaker at once to replace Paul Ryan.
Axios has obtained a letter circulated by Ginni Thomas, longtime leader in the conservative movement and spouse of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas stating that current House Republican leadership "has utterly failed" and "proven that its part of the Swamp," and that Jordan is the solution. Richard Viguerie, Chairman of ConservativeHQ.com, and Jenny Beth Martin, Chairman of the Tea Party Patriots, have also signed on.
Why it matters: Ryan has chosen to remain Speaker through the midterm elections despite announcing his retirement. But behind the scenes, the Republican conference has been restive and many members privately question whether its tenable for him to last out the year as a lame duck Speaker.
Now, conservative leaders who have long loathed Republican leadership are seizing this opportunity to promote Jordan. Along with his Freedom Caucus colleague Mark Meadows, Jordan has been a bane of leaderships existence during his time in Congress.
What they're saying: "Our supporters want to see Jim Jordan be the Speaker, and theyve wanted that for several years," Jenny Beth Martin told Axios. "Weve also called for Paul Ryan to step down as Speaker prior to him announcing he would not run for reelection."
Asked about the letter, Jordan told Axios: "The American people want results, and Im committed to bringing that change. Its as simple as this doing what we told the voters we would do.

This could add some energy to the Tea Party types for Midterms as well. It might appear that the House is getting ready to Lurch Right if there seemed to be support for the conservative in charge.
THEN,.... some of those lunk head RINOs in the House and Senate might see a RED wave and finally connect some dots? “Oh, so this is how we keep winning elections....”
(Maybe wishful thinking at this point)
That guy would be GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A terrific choice. But how many RINOS would vote for him?
Or, Louie Gohmert. Both very good.
Jim Jordan is AWESOME! What a great Speaker he would be.
Ryan typically doing what is good for him, not the party. This speaks volumes about who and what Ryan is really all about. He's a swamp creature who has an eye on getting a lucrative job within one of the many DC organizations that are in the swamp support business.
He needs to run, be elected and then effectively herd the cats.
It is McCarthy’s turn.
Yes he would. But don’t get your hopes up.
There are snakes like Scalise et al slithering around there.
YES!!!
“The American people want results, and Im committed to bringing that change. Its as simple as this doing what we told the voters we would do.

Jordan is on the side of the citizens and the rule of law and the Bush League Republicans (who still largely run the party) cannot have that.
We weren’t supposed to be able to elect a President who would enforce the laws.
To people like Ryan, he IS the party.
Bush League Republicans hell bent on making America into North Mexico.
He would be great but likely can’t get 218 votes. It will be Scalise.
or maybe Jim Robinson ....
