Dewey didn’t speak at our graduation but he came to our school and made a speech when he was running for president - ran against Truman and lost in 1948. Also ran against FDR in ‘44 and lost but by golly, he was governor of the state (NY) from 1943-1954.. Wonder how he did all that campaigning and still held onto his job of governor.
Never could figure out why whoever made the decision to have him make a campaign stop at our small town thought it was a good idea. Maybe those in high school would have been interested but we in lower grades certainly were not. We should have been excused!!!
