Former President Jimmy Carter, who said he is still an evangelical, called on all Christians to come together in his Liberty University commencement address Saturday in Virginia. He also identified the killings and abortions of 160 million girls around the world today as one of the greatest injustices facing humanity.
Carter, the 39th President, jumped through various talking points in his address at the major Christian university, and focused some of the most pressing human rights issues in the world today that he said Christians should be involved in.
He spoke of countries like China and others where male infants are greatly preferred over females due to economic opportunities, and noted that 160 million girls are not alive today because their parents "either kill their daughters by strangling them at birth," or they decide to abort them when finding out that the fetus is female.
Carter also condemned human trafficking and sexual assault, which he pointed out is a devastating problem in several South East Asia nations. At the same time, he noted that in the U.S. military itself, which he called "one of the finest organizations on earth," 16,000 cases of sexual abuse are reported every year.
As an evangelical and Southern Baptist who still teaches Sunday school, he urged Christians from all denominations to come together and focus on the things that unite them, rather than drive them apart.
Every single Democrat is responsible for abortion. Jimmy Carter included.
Is he ok with aborting baby boys?
Jimmuh...if ANYBODY cared what you think, you would have been re-elected way back when...
‘nuff said.
Jimmy Carter’s heart is in a very wrong place. Looking at the details of his anti-American presidency proves it. He always cheered communist regimes like the Sandinista takeover of Nicaragua which he helped engineer.
He increased Federal interference in education and crafted the “Racism Awareness Centers” we have today.
I would be disappointed if I was in that graduating class.
But hes ok aborting boys.
Fuch you Jimmy.
My parents voted for Carter when he was promoting himself as a proven conservative Christian, but would never vote for him today.
He was the last president running before I was able to vote. I helped vote him out in ‘80.
This argument is so hypocritical. These people scream at us fetuses are not people, so how can they wail about girls being aborted when they don’t consider them people?
Good works?......thats what youre talking about!
Im talking theology.....thats what I thought Liberty U was about
On the basis of religion, Carter is a lifelong evangelical Christian, by all accounts is well respected as such, even teaches bible study and all. No room to criticize him. I’m not defending Carter as much as I think the criticism is wrongly placed and we should show some respect for him as a respected former president. He’s not Obama, not Bush Jr., nor a Clinton.
Did they mention that the muzzies are doing THEIR part in keeping up the birthrate? That is how they plan on taking over the Country in 20 years.
I read the title fast. I thought it said Jimmy Carter Condoms. I thought it was a little late to launch a brand, but what the hell.
Mainstream-enough publications have had opinion pieces with the belief that "reproductive rights" are So Sacred that no motive for an abortion--specifically, not even possible discrimination against girls!--should be banned.
The writers, Good Feminists all, may still criticize the motives, but abortions are So Important that they must proceed. (Remember the bumper stickers that said something like "if men could get pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament"? The makers were projecting.)
This argument is not made very often, and it's probably not very politically palatable. It's still "logical" enough--if we start from very wrong premises.
Used to be a conservative university; I will never give them any attention again - they don’t exist to me. Jerry Falwell would turn over in his grave.
Lester Maddox called Carter “the most dishonest man I ever met.”
No, remember how the senior Falwell was always reaching out the liberal icon, Edward Moore Kennedy? EMK bit his hand ever time!
Nothing about immigrants, legal or illegal. They were trying to be clever but their agenda was clear.
