If it were a well written piece we would know what GDPR means/is in the first paragraph.

The EU is such a complete and total cluster-bleep. Good luck collecting those fines from Russia and China, idiots.

Back in the olden days, there used to be a broadcast called RADIO FREE EUROPE. These poor Europeans have built and live in their own prison.

This is nothing but the EU taking control of the Internet.
I believe it will be an economic disaster for the EU and its companies as people simply block them.

For large companies like Google and Amazon thats in the billions of dollars....So, how many miltary divisions does this EU Information Commissar have exactly?

They've had over TWO YEARS to get web site into compliance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) rules (it was adopted on April 14, 2016). Not our problem that the sites can't be viewed in Europe.

So the fake news sites like LA Slimes and NPR are being blocked!
Sounds like something we should let those countries handle and stay out of it.

Is there some reason why the EU will not allow individual citizens to decide for themselves what sites they will visit or refuse to visit?

Why don't they just require companies automatically opt out for use of cookies? If someone wants a cookie, they must opt in to use the cookie(s).
Otherwise, full services must be provided even if a user opts out. Easy. Free solution.
