“The Catholic Church in Ireland (Irish: Eaglais Chaitliceach na hÉireann) is part of the worldwide Catholic Church in communion with the Pope. With 3.7 million members, it is the largest Christian denomination in Ireland, comprising 78.3% of the population in the Republic of Ireland according to the 2016 census. ”

Rome counts 78.3% of the population.

Compare to final vote.

Thank God that Pope Francis took so much time out of his busy day telling Ireland that Catholic teaching forbids abortion.

I'm certain that this must have come up on his radar, and was warning of the sin of abortion.

He MUST have been making strong statements against abortion 24/7.

I'm sure he even flew to Ireland to make sure that as the leader of Catholic Church, he spoke the truth about the sanctity of life.

Oh wait... we're talking about some "minor issue".

Not something that the Catholic Church has stood for for 2000 years.

Too bad Pope Francis was busy telling gay people that they are OK.
