Publix suspends political contributions amid statewide protests (Camera Hogg Wins)
Tampa Bay Times ^ | May 25, 2018 | Steve Bousque

The supermarket giant acknowledges its support of Adam Putnam has "led to a divide in our community."

Publix, facing consumer boycotts, student protests and threats to its wholesome image for its generous support of Adam Putnam's bid for governor, announced Friday it is suspending all corporate campaign contributions immediately.

The popular retailer, facing a rapidly escalating public relations crisis fueled largely by social media and the debate over guns, issued a statement at the start of the three-day Memorial Day holiday weekend acknowledging the "divide" that it has caused by its unprecedented financial support of Putnam's campaign.

"At Publix, we respect the students and members of the community who have chosen to express their voices on these issues," the company said. "We regret that our contributions have led to a divide in our community. We did not intent to put our associates and the customers they serve in the middle of a political debate. At the same time, we remain committed to maintaining a welcoming shopping experience for our customers. We would never knowingly disappoint our customers or the communities we serve."

The company's action suggested that the furor over its contributions was having a significant effect as the 2018 political campaign attracts growing attention from Florida voters.

“Publix suspends political contributions amid statewide protests (Camera Hogg Wins)”

Too bad too.

When Publix’s was managed by the family patriarch he would not even allow the stores to be open on Sunday. He wanted his employees to have the option of going to church.

That was 25 years ago - but it was something to behold even then.

It has been a long ride down from the high country.

A grocery store is not public property. Why didn’t Publix call the police? Why were they not arrested for trespassing on private property when they entered and laid down in the store? The parking lot may be a bit more tricky legally as it’s probably considered public.. I’ve started shopping at Publix as it’s closer than the Kroger I’ve gone to for 12 years but???? That Kroger has been going downhill and I’ve been happy shopping at Publix and again but?????

What would you expect from a company which cannot pipe out “Summa Cum Laude” on a congratulatory cake, but instead gives the customer’s family the laugh of a lifetime with “Summa ___ Laude”? Anal orifices are anal orifices.

The family spends about $1,000 per month on groceries. The brainwashed leftists you caved to probably shoplift 10 times that amount everyday at your store. Know your customers, morons.

If Soros and his demons are that strong (they are) we need to toughen up for the Civil War II and not get taken by surprise.

Let’s all FReepers stick together.

“Don’t piss off half your customers.”

If the CEOs want to give to a charity or political party out of their own wallet, they're welcome to do so. However, when they use company profits to do so, that money belongs to their customers and earned by raising prices on products. Who gets the tax break? It's not the customers.

Can’t believe Publix caved this quickly! I’ve been supporting and buying them all week. Can’t they legally get the whiners off the floor and outside the store at least? There would be carts rolling and feet stomping all over ‘em if those whiners were splayed out like beached whales in our local dairy aisle.

Publix is pissing off lots of its customers who spend a lot more money at the store than do teenagers. Talk about a miscalculation.

I hope they see an immediate and horrifying loss of money as a consequence of this.

Someone needs to beat the crap out of him.

I've been saying that. When the little Nazi bastard has to have his jaw wired shut and dental implants installed, then he will learn to stop pissing people off.

They’ve turned around just to alienate
the other half. They should have held
firm. My guess is their business will
still drop off.
We’ll probably be seeing a rash of armed
robberies at these stores, with the crooks
knowing there won’t be any CCW’s in the
vicinity. One more for the ever-growing
boycott list.

I am so disappointed in Publix. Politics by tantrum should not be the rule of the day. Businesses have every right to participate in the political process. Even when I disagree with them.

Oh come on. There are way more people that supported Publix than wanted some dumb ass die in theater. Publix must be using the same PR consultant as the nfl did last year.

I’m with you.

The NRA is a very effective organization. Over time it has won quite a lot, and the way it does it is to make people pay for crossing it.

Just read an article about this the other day.

This one.

No staged ‘die in’ needed at Planned Parenthood; babies actually die there every day. If the Tampa Bay Times, the Dems and “Mr” Hogg honestly cared about protecting children, they would protest at Planned Parenthood.
