I am going to flip this on its head. I certainly feel for the mother and i expect i would feel horrible at the death of my child. But in the same vein, why can’t it be ‘In lieu of flowers, kill a drug user’ ?

My problem with the sentiment of killing a drug dealer is it absolves the drug user of any wrong doing or responsibility.

Suppose we kill every single known drug dealer. Would that solve the problem? I say no simply because the drug itself still exists and the drug user, would and could go get it still. Maybe they would start growing the plant themself or go and create a drug lab to produce it.

Again, i have sympathy for the mother but the drug user has responsibility to this situation too. In my opinion, the drug user has most of the responsibility, not the drug dealer.

I won’t paint all users as victims but this opioid epidemic is caused in large part by innocent people being over-prescribed for pain and ending up as junkies; doctors push pills that they know are creating addicts from normal people.
