Following the most recent school mass shooting – this time in Santa Fe, Texas, where 10 students and teachers were killed and 10 were wounded Friday – family members, friends and investigators find themselves searching for illusive answers.
Why did this happen? How do you make sense of such a senseless tragedy?
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott pointed out that unlike other recent mass shootings, “there were not those types of warning signs. The red-flag warnings were either nonexistent or very imperceptible.”
The accused shooter’s parents said the media reports of the shooting seemed “incompatible with the boy (they) love,” and the 17-year-old boy’s best friend said he was “one of the most responsible people I knew. He didn't drink or do drugs, to my knowledge … he was academically proactive, making all A's.”
Given the profile that is emerging, investigators have not yet identified the motive for the shooting.
I, however, know precisely why this latest killer did what he did. And I also know what will motivate the next killer to act in a similar way.
Many years ago, as I began investigating high-profile murders in Los Angeles County, I carefully chronicled the motives for every homicide that occurred in our region. You might think there are a million reasons why someone would commit a murder, but there are only three possibilities.
At least one of these three motives is the driving force behind every homicide, theft, burglary and robbery. In fact, these three motives lie at the heart of every conceivable crime or misdeed.
Human misbehavior is motivated by: financial greed, sexual – or relational – lust, and the pursuit of power.

I was confronted with murdeitng someone once who had done me wrong in a large way
I had them solid with full authority to shoot them on their knees

The bad news - Mass shootings in USA schools are premeditated acts of psychological terror.
The good news - Defending our schools from domestic terrorists is no more complicated than defending our airports.
That will be expensive. But Liberty is always expensive. It’s a war that never ends.

I’d say those are two very big and common causes.
He left out that they are getting radio messages from Mars via the fillings in their teeth.
The next shooter will be someone who yearns to be noticed, to "make his mark," to "be somebody" ... and doesn't care how he does it.

Can’t forget crimes of passion.
It’s seems in the past killers wanted to die or would kill themselves, that seems to have changed. I don’t know what it means, but I would attribute the change, at least in part, to social media.
His categories seem to fit quite well with 1 John 2:16. The lust of the eyes (greed), the lust of the flesh (sex) and the pride of life (power/pride). In the Bible and in my early Catechism class, I learned about the dangers of the devil (pride/power), the world (greed) and our own flesh (sex). These are the things that the Bible wanted us (and the ancient Israelites and Church) to address. Natural occurring chemical inbalance is a whole different game. Although, self-induced chemical inbalance (due to illicit drugs), perhaps can often be traced back to some desire for an increased sense of pride/power.
I have heard of this as the three G’s; Gold, Glory or Girls.

The Clintons check all three boxes.
Serial killers tend to be sexual deviants. Mass murderers tend to be suicidal.
The shooting with the shotgun and revolver seems, with what has come out so far, to be pretty clearly media-driven.
It would s much like the Clinton church burnings - becoming a thing because there was so much attention given repeatedly.
I don’t really care why people become killers, but I do care that in a supposedly “civilized” society the killers are not publicly hanged, say within 10 days of their crime.
I am not discounting any of that. However, you never hear of what is really being taught to children in the name of “character education.” It is the insidious monster that no one knows about.
