The Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) cut relational and financial ties with the D.C. Baptist Convention (DCBC) for refusing to disfellowship a church with two lesbian pastors.
The Executive Committee of the SBC issued a warning to the DCBC in February in which the D.C. convention was given 90 days to remove any church in its fellowship that practice affirming, approving or endorsing homosexual behavior, according to Baptist Press.
The executive committee gave the warning specifically with regard to Calvary Baptist Church, which affirmed a lesbian couple as co-pastors in 2017, according to Juicy Ecumenism. The D.C. Baptist Convention failed to comply with the SBCs warning as of May 21 and has therefore been disfellowshipped.
The formal relationship between the SBC and the DCBC has come to an end, read a statement from interim Executive Committee president D. August Boto, according to Baptist Press.
Boto told Baptist Press that the EC at its February meeting expressed deep regret over the need to take this action, but felt compelled to affirm biblical truth over organizational relationships.
With the severing of its relationship with the SBC, the DCBC lost its authorization to receive and disburse Cooperative Program and other SBC contributions, effectively cutting it off from SBC financial support and other aid.

Glad the SBC finally grew the cojones to do this.
Gods way or mans way.
Here’s the rub: the were neither Baptists or Christians.
Have Roman Catholic Dioseses cut ties with the Vatican over its support of homosexuality?
That’s a trick question, right?
good for SBC!
They should.
“. . . but felt compelled to affirm biblical truth over organizational relationships.
A good statement that needs to be used more often.
They’re about the only Christian church that follows the Bible.
See my tagline. It’s almost here.
I don’t think that is an issue isolated to the Baptist Church, folks.
I see a boatload of Christian churches of ALL denominations that have the rainbow flag on their signs, if not the actual flags.
I commend the Southern Baptists for taking this positive step, but there are a load of other denominations, not just Catholics, who openly embrace homosexuality.
How widespread is SBC geographically?
Don’t look back either.
Pride goeth before a fall.
There is no middle ground on this.
Now start disfellowing churches with female pastors and they will really be on track.
God’s word is abundantly clear, it’s a very black and white issue.
but there are a load of other denominations, not just Catholics, who openly embrace homosexuality.
Absolutely true. Pretty much every liberal denomination is in the same boat.
And Pope Francis has just re-affirmed the traditional Catholic policy that homosexuals are not to be admitted to the seminary. He told bishops they are not to admit young men into seminaries if you have the slightest doubt that they might be active homosexuals ~ or ~" have "deep-seated homosexual tendencies".
As good-guy Catholic journalist Phil Lawler remarked,
I know; I know. This concern about homosexual influence contrasts quite sharply with the Holy Fathers reported advice to a gay Chilean abuse victim to be happy with who you are. It contrasts with the most famous words of his pontificate, uttered in response to questioning about a homosexual cleric: Who am I to judge? But if Pope Francis is finally recognizing the damage that homosexual influence has done to the Church, that is surely a hopeful sign. |
So the problem here is not "Catholic-ISM" "openly embracing" homosexuality: it's post-Catholic, quasi-Catholic, and anti-Catholic Catholics. That includes our on-again, off-again, Yes - No - Maybe - You-figure-it-out, (sigh) non-denominational post-Catholic pope.
Who makes me feel like pulling my hair out of a daily basis.
That said, I salute the honorable, God-pleasing SBC for clearly and totally disfellowshiping the lesbian - er - "fellowship".
