Outside money is flooding into a trio of key California House primaries, as Democrats try to avoid being shut out of the general election.
The total outside spending in those June 5 primary races had eclipsed more than $8 million as of Friday, according to an analysis of Federal Election Commission filings by The Hill. The high-dollar spending is in the three GOP-held seats represented by Rep. Dana Rohrabacher and retiring Reps. Darrell Issa and Ed Royce, all of which are viewed as potential pick-up opportunities for Democrats.
Californias jungle primary system pits all candidates, regardless of party, against one another in a single primary, with the top two vote getters moving on to the general election. Democrats fear that crowded Democratic fields will split their parties vote in some races, allowing Republicans to take both election slots.
Now outside groups are spending heavily in the races in an attempt to avert Democratic shutouts.
Californias 39th District: $2 million in total outside spending
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) is easily the biggest spender in the primary for the seat now held by Royce.
At first, the DCCC only focused on targeting Republicans Shawn Nelson, a member of the Orange County Board of Supervisors, and former state Sen. Bob Huff as tensions boiled over between the Democratic front-runners.

I’m guessing they’ll cheat anyway or Brown will change the rules.
Well crap, this is funny I don’t care who you are. They instituted this to lock out the GOP.
LOL
California having a Red Tide ... maybe all those celebrities would finally move to Canada?
I hope this comes back to bite them.
That just makes my morning. Take a few Dems with you, Dr Reisman. Dare I dream we're making California great again (I know it's a hold not a pickup, but it just warms my heart that the blue wave was reduced to a ripple in my native state).
“...maybe all those celebrities would finally move to Canada?”
Cuba a better choice for them?
IMHO
They called it a “jungle primary” system. If a conservative leaning media outlet had said such a thing there would be ten articles slamming the right wing racism.
Election rigging, California style.
Certainly better for Canada....
California isn't a real state...
You have to wonder....what idiot dreamed up this concept of ‘jungle primary’ and how they explained it to the state Democratic leadership.
I would agree...as long as you can hold the Republican primary with on two possible folks, and can arrange for five or more Democratic folks (with money spent on losers there)...you can flip this into a GOP only election in probably thirty to forty percent of districts. I’ll bet that they vote to undo the ‘jungle primary’ by spring of 2019.
> Cuba a better choice for them? <
I don’t think Cuba is enough of a socialist paradise for them. Venezuela would be a better choice.
Adopt the rule: cant vote, cant contribute. And corporations cant vote!
“If we have two Republicans running I think Im going back to Canada.”
Hey Gail, don’t let the door hit you in the a$$ on your way back to your “home country!” Just wonder if she’s been voting here?
LOL, Kim Jong Un.
If I recall correctly, he and his party get virtually 100% of the vote in each election. Democrats would love such voter enthusiasm.
It’s hilarious.
The first name on the mail in ballot for Senator is Kevin De Leon.
Not because it’s alphabetical. It’s not.
Nor is it by party. It’s not.
It’s just that his Mexican buddy, Alex Padilla, is the Secretary of State of California (!). So he put his fellow cholo first.
Feinstein is way down the list. She must be fuming. But this is the world she inflicted on the rest of us with her votes.
Election rigging? California is already Mexico.
And where is Sleepy Sessions?
Hiding in a corner screaming “Ah ain’t gilty, Ah ain’t gilty, Ah didn’t talk to no Russians! Please don’t be mean to me!”
Whatta Klown. Wouldn’t do a thing about election fraud.
How many illegals does that buy?
Call it rigged or call it ranked, but California voters always had a penchant for being all too eager to swim against the tide .. Corruption is nothing new here, in politics it is the norm.
