Yes, it is very sad.
If they want their freedom, they are going to have to get creative like the......French(!) do with their general strikes. Shut down business and hit them in the pocketbook. Of course, that hurts themselves as well, but I imagine it wouldn’t have to last too long.

Honestly there are many very sharp Englishmen, the best don’t work for the government. But the same can be said for the Government workers in many US agencies.
