It started with money, as it so often does in New York. A crisp $100 bill slipped across the smooth surface of the mid-century-inspired concierge desk at 11 Howard, the sleek new boutique hotel in Soho. Looking up, Neffatari Davis, the 25-year-old concierge, who goes by Neff, was surprised to see the cash had come from a young woman who seemed to be around her age. She had a heart-shaped face and pouty lips surrounded by a wild tangle of red hair, her eyes framed by incongruously chunky black glasses that Neff, an aspiring cinematographer with an eye for detail, identified as Céline. She was looking, she said in an accent that sounded European, for the best food in Soho.
Whats your name? Neff asked, after the girl waved off her suggestions of Carbone and the Mercer Kitchen and settled on the Butchers Daughter.
Anna Delvey, said the young woman. Shed be staying at the hotel for a month, she went on, which Neff also found surprising: Usually it was only celebrities who came for such long stretches. But Neff checked the system, and there it was. Delvey was booked into a Howard Deluxe, one of the hotels midrange options, about $400 a night, with ceramic sculptures on the walls and oversize windows looking onto the bustling streets of Soho. It was February 18, 2017.
Thanks, said Delvey. See you around.
That turned out to be a promise. Over the next few weeks, Delvey stopped by often to ask Neffs advice, slipping her $100 each time. Neff would wax on about how Mr. Purple was totally washed and Vandal was for hipsters, while Delveys eyes would flit around behind her glasses. Eventually, Neff realized: Delvey already knew all the cool places to go

To us deplorables, it is like reading pulp fiction, only it's real. There's a wide gulf between the deplorables and blue state glitterati, without a doubt.
Tried skimming to get the point. Dang this is king and rambling.
If you live in New York, or London, or Hong Kong, you can actually meet people like this. Phony, pretend high-class grifters. They are sociopaths.
What a story. Couldn’t believe I read the whole thing.
What’s worse is, it seems she completely believes her own lies. She has some obvious, very serious mental problems.
Good grief! She blinded NYC’s liberal socialites by flashing $100 bills and promising golden unicorns.
This story will become a movie. I’d bet on it.
Well written article.
And, this isn’t news. It’s tabloid, at best. Not even worthy of chat. Definitely does not belong on FR.
Fascinating read. A modern Holly Golightly.
Wow, a criminal Holly-Go-Lightly.
It reminded meof this guy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Hampton
And they did make a movie: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Six_Degrees_of_Separation_(film)
“And, this isnt news. Its tabloid, at best. Not even worthy of chat. Definitely does not belong on FR.”
Wow, a man who knows what every one on FR should read!
Without a doubt this is an account of a narcissist in criminal form... which most are criminals in some form or another! All narcissist are bad news and evil! I dated one for a while, and once you recognize their traits, you will never forget!
Good read. Unbelievable how many people she was able to grift before she was caught. They could make a movie about her.
You would think that with so many grifters around these people would have been wise to her. She must have been good.
I had a hard time with this from the start and it kept getting harder. People who value clubs, and restaurants, and money and fame and art, generally lose. Unless they turn it around and start preying on others who crave these things.
New York and L.A. are loaded with these people. They are depraved, and so many just lose everything in their quest for their valued life. While some figure it out and leave to live a happy mediocre life. Others live short miserable existences.
What a story. Couldnt believe I read the whole thing.
And I thought that my kids were good at conning me. Theyre clearly rank amateurs compared to this girls skills.
I'm so glad you are here to tell me these things. What should I have for breakfast this morning?
