Which of course was a made-up hell run by people... that’s one of the irksome turns that “established Christianity” took in that day. A horrible fly causing a stink in the otherwise pretty respectable ointment/perfume that was Southern Baptists, to be specific. That was a sign of a church that needed to retrace the grace of God and the fall of man from square one, to get its bearings right. The New Testament sounded the death knell to slavery and almost two millennia of Christendom didn’t get it. When it said “give up threatening” to masters, that meant it had to be hospitable even to an “owned servant” or literally by God, it was kaput.
Huck was the son of the town drunk. Didnt have much schoolin, didnt have much Christianizin. He pretty much brought himself up. Then he found himself on a raft with Jim. It didnt take Huck much time to see a fellow human in Jim. Huck didnt have no culture to speak of, and made his own decisions. His adventure was the adventure that America still is going through.
