North Korean official to visit Washington on Friday

A top North Korean official will visit Washington on Friday, in a dramatic move that underscores the intense diplomacy between the US and Pyongyang ahead of the planned June 12 summit in Singapore between Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un.

Speaking before boarding Air Force One, Mr Trump said Kim Yong Chol, a close adviser to Kim Jong Un who has spent the past two days in New York meeting Mike Pompeo, secretary of state, would carry a letter from the North Korean leader.

“A letter is going to be delivered to me from Kim Jong Un. So I look forward to seeing what’s in the letter,” Mr Trump said.

Mr Trump said that he did not know what the letter would say, but added that the meetings between his officials and the North Koreans were “very positive”. Asked whether both sides were nearing a deal to denuclearise the Korean peninsula, the US president said he was hoping that the summit in Singapore would go ahead.

“Hopefully, we’ll have a meeting on the 12th,” he said. “I want it to be meaningful. It doesn’t mean it gets all done at one meeting. Maybe you have to have a second or a third. And maybe we’ll have none.”(continued)

Hopefully they'll analyze the letter for any traces of nerve or biological agents.

The letter is interesting.

No way does Trump expose himself physically to it.

By now, the letter was obtained and sent to test labs.

I suspect, Trump will be handed a US recreation and pretend to read as if authentic and trustworthy.

Thanks , 2DV.

The wide range of personalities and channels suggests both countries are making efforts to find common ground to get the summit to happen in Singapore on June 12; and top-down talks are the best way to engage Pyongyang

I’m just worried Pompeo might eat one of these little North Koreans.

I am cautiously optimistic. This morning, I read some article on some Chinese website that Kim urged country and party to be flexible so that they get economic benefit from US AND preserve their nuclear weaponry. I have no idea whether or not its true

Normally that’s the Secret Service, aided by the military. I was in more than one meeting where one or two star generals fetched coffee and Danish because we were integral to the briefing or whatever and couldn’t be spared to be gofers.
