It sure is strange the Amazon and Apple are only considering liberal cities for all their high paying jobs. Raleigh, Austin, Dallas, and the DC area.

Why ain’t they looking at more conservatives towns in West Virginia, Kentucky, Alabama or Mississippi for their high paying jobs?

North Carolina unfortunately has one of the most backward legal systems in the nation (there is no speedy trial law, for example; in one glaring example a man was held in jail four and a half years BEFORE trial, and it was ruled not to violate his right to a speedy trial);

the political corruption is immense (Durham was the home to Frank Matthews, the east coast heroin king; and later NC was home to his successor, Frank Lucas, “American Gangster”), and that much drug money flowing through a state corrupts everything from the corner cop to the statehouse;

and of course the Duke lacrosse case was there — possible perhaps in few other places than NC, because the legal system was so corrupt it allowed for the railroading of three innocent students for a crime that never happened.

Great place to move to and bring your family to raise (sarc/off)

The employees they have, and want to add, would not accept a place that's not at least moving more to the left, toward bigger government, toward a more nanny state environment, toward the environment they're already used to. No "Whole Foods"? Out. Not "diverse" enough? Out. No Peruvian grocery that delivers? Out! Gawd, people drive PICK-UP TRUCKS? And have GUNS in RACKS in the back window? OUT!

From a practical standpoint, there is the issue of infrastructure. Take Louisville or Birmingham, for example. Air service is not particularly good, and Raleigh, DC, and Dallas have better highway connections. Logistics trumps ideology sometimes. Besides, I don't think the larger cities in the mid-South or Appalachia are particularly conservative, any more than their Texas or Southeastern counterparts. The only reasonably large cites in this country that are somewhat conservative that I can think of are Fort Worth, Tulsa, and Oklahoma City.
