I agree with you, but I don't think Canada is really a problem here. Our trade deficit with Canada is very small, and I can assure you there hasn't been a flood of U.S. companies moving their manufacturing operations up there over the last 25 years.

Canada is an over-regulated, expensive place to do business.

Canada deserves to be punished for sending insane asylum inhabitant Samantha Bee to the USA.

I know Trump is not happy with the NATO freeloaders which Canada is one of the biggest. They are spending no where near the two percent of GDP as required. These trade issues could be part of a larger negotiating strategy to get Canada to start ponying up more money on defense.

Are you talking about Mark Levin? Even if you are not, I had to turn him off last night because he was so off.

He IS a drama queen and sissy to beat all....he reminds me of a ‘pretty boy’ gone to the dark side. Easily manipulated to be ‘accepted by all’

.....”I know Trump is not happy with the NATO freeloaders which Canada is one of the biggest. They are spending no where near the two percent of GDP as required. These trade issues could be part of a larger negotiating strategy to get Canada to start ponying up more money on defense.”.....

Well the International leaders were all ‘prepared and set’ up to do business with Hillary.....and of course the Clintons and Obamas machinery have been trying to keep that alive by traveling to various countries coaching the leaders. Kerry has been of recent as we know.

SOOOO....the World leaders aren’t quite certain how to ‘change’ or do the work they have to..and or/if they can stall until 2020 and hope he doesn’t get another term.... currently they’re attempting to ‘show’ they are collectively a force for Trump to reckon with. And Trumps asking us to wait and suffer through their struggle til they realize they need to come to Trumps table.

I’ve watched the bordor show that reveals some of what the border people do, you being held up for having your company attest to who you are does appear to mean you’ll be sitting for several hours. But you certainly struck it well for getting a 2 yr. visa for sure!

You don’t want to break down on anything in Canada or it’s going to cost you plenty! That’s why they all shoot down here all the time to acquire goods etc. cheaper. Heck even the refugees and foreigners learn to do that in quick order.

No matter how much some may say they hate the US...they think nothing of taking home our goods.

what is your hangup with honorable?

The only pertinent question is is it legal? it is a law and the courts will make the determination or popular pressure will force the legislatures to rescind

>> Income tax burdens are far, far higher than that of tariffs <<

Today? For sure.

Still, your statement is true not as a general proposition for all time, but rather because gov’t has grown far too large. If we tried to support today’s level of gov’t expenditure with tariffs, the economy could go into a severe depression, possibly much worse than anything of the sort that’s ever been experienced since the founding of our Republic.

So unless you can come up with a magic elixir to shrink gov’t to approximately the percentage of GNP that it was prior to World War One, we’re stuck with the income tax.

In other words, let’s get real and cut the utopian day-dreaming about financing gov’t via tariffs.

Last but least, the comments above are made without regard to the distributional and efficiency effects of excise taxes (like tariffs) versus income taxes. There’s a huge technical literature on the very problem, and this literature by no means supports your proposition that tariffs are in some way superior to income taxes. I’d love to give you instruction on the matter, which could be virtually a PhD-level curriculum in public finance, but I don’t really have the time.

Enjoy the weekend!

Canada is a big enough market for US goods that it is one of the few countries where the US runs a steel trade surplus.

California’s Economy Is 5th Biggest in the world, it moved ahead of the UK in May 2018 and has been ahead of France’s since May 2016.
