The Curious Case of Mr. Downer
WSJ ^ | 05/31/2018 | Kimberley A. Strassel

Posted on 6/1/2018, 4:25:05 PM by SpeedyInTexas

To hear the Federal Bureau of Investigation tell it, its decision to launch a counterintelligence probe into a major-party presidential campaign comes down to a foreign tip about a 28-year-old fourth-tier Trump adviser, George Papadopoulos.

The FBI’s media scribes have dutifully reported the bare facts of that “intel.” We are told the infamous tip came from Alexander Downer, at the time the Australian ambassador to the U.K. Mr. Downer invited Mr. Papadopoulos for a drink in early May 2016, where the aide told the ambassador the Russians had dirt on Hillary Clinton. Word of this encounter at some point reached the FBI, inspiring it to launch its counterintelligence investigation into the Trump campaign on July 31.

So Papadopoulos never said Russia had "thousands of emails" on Clinton. That phrase is made up. Fake news as they say.

Kimberley Strassel is doing God’s work. She was s one of six or so people getting to the bottom of this scandal, with others like Sara Carter and John Solomon.

Despite the vary clear rights delineated in our Constitution, our Congress has passed, and the courts have unconstitutionally upheld, laws that greatly infringe on the rights of the people. So now we have a situation where a “tip” by a foreign official leads to secret spying on American citizens by their government which completely infringes on the letter and spirit of the fourth amendment in the name of national security.

Consider that the unverified “word” of a foreign official is enough to put in motion the heavy hand of the state.

Our founder fathers would be appalled. This was exactly the type of tyranny the Constitution was intended to prevent.

We should remember the tyranny of the present time was a creation of both political parties. The Patriot Act was a product of a Republican administration (George W. Bush) and the majority opinion of the Supreme Court upholding the act was written by Chief Justice John Roberts an appointee of the same George W. Bush. Scalia, Alito, and Kennedy also voted to uphold the infringement on Constitutional rights. It was the liberal justices - Ginsburg, Breyer, and Sotomayor who voted against the law.

The Patriot Act was a wolf in sheeps clothing. In the name of “national security” it removed constitutional protections and has allowed the federal government to establish the surveillance infrastructure, and secret unaccountable courts, needed to impose a totalitarian state.

It is ironic that history may end up recording that a self labeled compassionate conservative president (George W. Bush), enabled by “conservative” Supreme Court justices and a compliant Republican Congress, established the legal authority for a communist totalitarian state. The drama is unfolding before our eyes.

So a Trump campaign member suggest that he had heard that Hillary was compromised by the Russians.

From this, instead of investigating the compromised former Sec. State (perhaps because it was all to public), the FBI investigates the person who came to know of it.

So the threat to a political viability of a favored former member of the Obama administration took precedence over determining how she might be compromised and how that compromise had been used to subvert the interests of the United States.

That is the Comey FBI.

I think the revelation that Halper was the spy is fake news. They threw out his name to lead us off the trail. They knew they had to give up someone as an informant because Nunes was insistent. But there is someone else they are hiding.

From John Solomon’s article on The Hill Today-
http://thehill.com/opinion/white-house/390228-london-bridges-falling-down-curious-origins-of-fbis-trump-russia-probe

“On July 23, 2016, shortly after WikiLeaks released the first hacked Clinton campaign emails, the Australian government contacted the State Department’s deputy chief of mission in London about Downer’s May 10 conversation with Papadopoulos. State forwarded the information to FBI headquarters.”

From NPR March 6 2017
https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2017/03/06/518797121/faq-on-alleged-wire-taps-of-trump-communications

Nov. 7, 2016: The website Heat Street posted a piece by former Conservative British politician Louise Mensch stating that “two separate sources with links to the counter-intelligence community have confirmed” that the FBI twice sought warrants to “examine activities of ‘U.S. persons’ in Trump’s campaign with ties to Russia.” The article states that a June warrant request was denied, and that a second request in October was approved.

Jan. 11: The Guardian reported that a June application by U.S. intelligence to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court had been denied, and that the newspaper had not confirmed the Heat Street reporting about an October order.

Jan. 12: The BBC reported that the June application had been denied, and quoted “a lawyer outside the Department of Justice but familiar with the case” saying the court had granted a request by U.S. intelligence to intercept electronic records from two Russian banks, and that the order involved three of then-President-elect Trump’s associates.”

Soo... The FBI was seeking a FISA warrant on the Trump campaign’s connection to “Russia” in JUNE 2016.. but they had not heard of the Papadopoulos comment through Downer until July 23, 2016.

But the NY Times tells us the Papadopoulos comment was the reason the investigation “began”..
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/30/us/politics/how-fbi-russia-investigation-began-george-papadopoulos.html

Pants on fire lying from the NY Times, why am I not surprised????

Absolutely. The numbers are small but their impact is gargantuan. They are breaking this thing wide open and have reliable sources for doing so.

In a fair world with a media that was fair and just telling the honest truth about this scandal, it would be 30 years before another Democrat won the presidency.

The whole thing began even earlier than that — in 2015.
