The family unit is not important to all of them by far. It is very common for the men to leave wife and family and come North, get a new wife and family. If they get deported they often go back to the first family. That happens over and over. Many think nothing of leaving children with whoever, even selling them for trafficking.
I actually get tired of hearing about their family being so important- they play on it but not so important to many. They are no better or worse than say we are about that, some are truly family oriented, some are not. Nothing special about their family connections to many.
