A group of House Democrats will take another run this week at stopping President Trump and the Pentagon from developing low-yield nuclear weapons.
The new warhead program would be defunded by $65 million in the coming year under an amendment to a Department of Energy appropriations bill proposed by Reps. Barbara Lee, D-Calif., Earl Blumenauer, D-Ore., John Garamendi, D-Calif., and Dan Kildee, D-Mich.
The spending bill could hit the House floor late this week following Rules Committee meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday to decide if their amendment will get a vote.
The proposal is the latest effort by Democrats on both sides of Capitol Hill to block development of a low-yield nuclear warhead for Trident missiles on Ohio-class submarines and sea-launched cruise missiles.
The weapons are a new initiative in the Pentagons Nuclear Posture Review released this year. The administration says the smaller nuclear warheads are needed to deter Russia, which believes it could deter the U.S. by using its own version of the weapons in an escalate to de-escalate scenario....

Low yield weapons in the .1-5kt range can have many tactical uses. Drop a 1kt bomb in a shipyard and do the work of 100s of sorties.
I know I’m not supposed to hate, but Democrats.........
My son served on the Ohio. I had always assumed the missiles were nuclear armed but he told me “no nukes were there.”
Now I know that the Army had small nukes in Europe for decades. Was that negotiated away?
DemocRATS, the MAW (Make America Weak) Party.
Some SSBNs were modified to carry commandoes for raids and conventional cruise missiles. We still have plenty that do carry nuclear missiles. Britain has two nuclear SSBNs that carry our Trident missile. That is their only current nuclear deterrent.
Very strange. Those particular Democrats live in areas most likely to receive many ground bursts, if an exchange can’t be shut down soon enough. The sanity and intelligence of their most influential constituents are questionable.
“I know Im not supposed to hate,”
No, it’s perfectly all right to hate evil.
I could use a low yield nuke...I have a couple of bothersome neighbors.
A tiny Davy Crockett would do the trick in your case. Even mounts on your SUV.
I like the way you think.
If your son served on the Ohio in 2008 or later then he was telling the truth as the Ohio and three others (the oldest boats) were converted into cruise missile boats.
“Now I know that the Army had small nukes in Europe for decades. Was that negotiated away?”
Short answer: yes. Longer answer for your choice of further reading or research: Intermediate Nuclear Forces. The Army field artillery missile system I served on, LANCE, was among those that went away.
Micro-management by committee.
The problem with using nukes, is that you’ve just dropped a nuke. It doesn’t matter if it’s sub-kiloton, you’ve initiated first use of nuclear weapons in the conflict, and the other side will now likely respond with their own nukes.
Yes, in the Intermediate Nuclear Arms Limitation Treaty, under Reagan. Under Obama (quelle suprise!) the Russian began cheating by moving intermediate range missiles within range of Poland and the Baltic. (And Finland and Sweden.)
My first thoughts are Iran and the Norks...perfect weapons to give them a bloody nose.
Using nukes on Russia, regardless of size, won’t leave much of the US livable, so probably best to find other options.
China, of course, is a wild card, but I suspect they’ll be matching us nuke-wise in a decade, and maybe even catch up to Russia in 2 decades - so probably best to be careful there too.

This just shows how truly stupid the DemoRats are.
The Democrats continue to collude with the Russians. Thanks 2ndDivisionVet.
