Except for Assange types who quickly get screenshots and freeze a page just about to be deleted by the guilty we would never know a lot of things.
The Soviets used to make people disappear such as scientists or former politburo members. Then they literally would send agents out to all libraries and archives and cut with razors or utility blades the mention of their name in all encyclopedias, almanacs, scientific journals and everywhere else. Amazing and quaint story about print, isn’t it?
I'm pretty sure 'our guys' did the same types of things. Too bad some modern day 'historian' isn't out there saving all this stuff so someone in the future will know the truth...
