The so-called temporary invite would only last till after November....

per article: "Volcan de Fuego, Spanish for "volcano of fire"

What a sharp, erudite nation of poets!

Only a people composed of scholars and and scribes could have come up with a handle so elegant and imaginative. I now realize what they mean when they speak of the mystery and romance of the Latin soul, souls liken unto a Volcano of Fire.

Prayers up for the people affected. I saw some cell phone videos that people took as they fled away from the erupting volcano. The sad thing on the videos was seeing other people driving TOWARD the eruption. I imagine they were hoping to rescue loved ones trapped near the volcano.

I was around the area where Volcan de Fugeo is. Quite beautiful as there is a chain of three volcanoes.

A volcanic eruption like this is no laughing matter. I am praying for all those whose lives are altered forever. Some have died or been injured. Others have lost loved ones. Many others have lost whatever they had in the way of material possessions. I am sad for the people living there.

“The Volcan de Fuego, Spanish for “volcano of fire,” exploded in a hail of ash and molten rock”, wiping out decades of progress on man made climate change.

Mrs. BN & I flew out of Guatemala City this past Wednesday. The friend who drove us to the airport told us to “Look for the volcano after take-off. It’s the most active in Central America. Sometimes we can see it from the hotel at night!”

Our co-worker flew out Sunday at 8 am. The volcano blew just before noon, wiping out a village and closing the airport.

The mission we spent time with, located about 100 miles to the east, is getting ash fall.

Central America is a VERY active geological zone since two tectonic plates collide there. Indeed, that's why American engineers dropped the idea of a shipping canal through Nicaragua because of those highly active volcanoes before they built the Panama Canal.

That's why the Indonesian Archipelago is closely monitored. There are a lot of very active volcanoes there, all capable of massive eruptions (as we know from Tambora in 1815 and Krakatoa in 1883).
