PHILADELPHIA EAGLES WHITE HOUSE VISIT IS OFF ... Trump Suggests He Pulled the Plug
TMZ ^ | Jun 4, 2018 | staff

Posted on 06/04/2018 4:17:55 PM PDT by Eddie01

Donald Trump has announced the plans for the Philadelphia Eagles to visit the White House to celebrate the Super Bowl victory is officially OFF ... and POTUS is making it seem like it was his decision.

Instead, Trump says he will still have the United States Marine Band and the United Army Chorus playing the national anthem at 1600 Pennsylvania ... while he stands proudly and watches.

The team was scheduled to visit on Tuesday ... without several key members from the team who opted out as a way to protest Trump's stance on the national anthem.

But Trump says the "smaller delegation" of players who accepted the invite are no longer coming because "the fans deserve better."

"The Philadelphia Eagles are unable to come to the White House with their full team to be celebrated tomorrow."

"They disagree with their President because he insists that they proudly stand for the National Anthem, hand on heart, in honor of the great men and women of our country."

"The Eagles wanted to send a smaller delegation, but the 1,000 fan planning to attend the event deserve better."

"These fans are still invited to the White House to be part of a different type of ceremony-one that will honor our great country, pay tribute to the heroes who fight to protect it, and loudly and proudly play the National Anthem."

"I will be there at 3:00 p.m. with the United States Marine Band and the United Army Chorus to celebrate America."

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney won in 2015 because of white working class city ethnics and black voters. Period.

The only question that remains is what kind of American would continue to support and throw money at these people?

I wish the Patriots had won.

Tom Brady would have been honored to visit his friend Donald in the White House. Bob Kraft, too.

A few points of order.

Last year Brady and about two dozen other Patriots didn't attend the 2017 White House visit. The BS excuse given was "some veteran players did not see the need to go twice in three years." Uh huh.

In this light, one could ask why didn't Trump revoke the invitation to the Pats last year? Perhaps it's because the Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie made some pretty stupid comments. Thus, I think there is more to this revocation than meets the eye.

Indeed, Eagles Coach Peterson, on national TV after the SB 52 win, personally thanked his "Lord and Savior Jesus Christ". The Eagles, by many accounts, were pretty "normal" vs other teams as far as kneeling etc. Yes, three Eagles were not appropriate during the National Anthem, but certainly there wasn't a cornucopia of arm-locking and kneeling on the Eagles sideline.

Let's also not forget that Robert Kraft flew Parkland shooting survivors to D.C. on the Patriots' plane. Not exactly MAGA type stuff.

As an Eagles fan, I'm unhappy that the THREE Eagles who said publicly they wouldn't go, have spoiled everything for everyone. (It's worth noting that there is a report (thanks Eddie01) that fewer than ten Eagles were set to attend - if that's true, then that's reprehensible and I'm ashamed of the Eagles). I understand that Trump could have invited everyone who wasn't a loser, but the bottom line is Trump was making an example out of the Eagles. I, too, doubt any Eagle will show up as that would create problems in the locker room.

The bottom line is, we voted for a President who was willing to throw punches. I continue to support my President, because the same guy who dis-invited my team to the WH, is the same guy who gave us tax cuts, an improved economy, etc. I'll take MAGA over panem et circenses any day of the week.

If the Caps win the Stanley Cup, he will get a chance to invite four Russians to the WH. That should be an interesting photo op.

I knew this was coming as soon as he invited them. In fact, I thought that it wouldn’t be wise to invite them in the first place, but then he would be seen as ungracious if he didn’t because he invited the Patriots. I thought perhaps the controversy with him and the NFL was dying down, but then the NFL announced its new anthem policy, and I figured a lot of players would not be happy with him. I’m sure there are other reasons. The media/left have him painted as a racist, so I’m sure that there are players who are protesting him because of that.

Trump is a media guy. He knows the optics, and he knows they lied last year when the Patriots came about how many players were there. It was less than Obama, but the majority came. Trump knows he’s going to get hit either way - cancel and take some heat or go through with it and have pictures splashed everywhere in the press comparing past ceremonies with this one. The left would love it and would splash it all over social media.

That said, the White House should have probably found out how many were going to come prior to inviting 1,000 Eagles fans. If known, he then could have had the small group that wanted to come and just had a small ceremony in the Oval Office for them and some lunch. The photo disparity wouldn’t look bad if not done like the usual ones where they are outside. Those could be used for comparisons, but it would be much harder to do that with an Oval Office picture. They could just say it was a small gathering of a few Eagles players who won the Super Bowl.

The bottom line is that I think that he takes the heat either way, but in this case, there won’t be pictures for the press to use.

Tom Brady would not have, and the majority of the Patriots kneeled after Trump’s comments to protest. Tom Brady did not show up last time and claimed it was family reasons, but notice if that were true that Trump would have mentioned him in the ceremony at the White House. He would have talked about his friend Tom Brady the MVP and how he was so sorry Tom couldn’t make it. He was dead silent. His wife then posted about an anti-Trump protest that same day. Rush Limbaugh, who knows Kraft, said that he couldn’t say everything but that Tom Brady’s wife didn’t want him to go and didn’t want him to be associated with Trump by going. Notice Trump has never mentioned Tom Brady again. In one of those anonymously sourced articles from the press, there was a snippet where it said that Trump was disappointed Brady no longer kept in touch.

Optics wise, it would have been a gift to the press to have the event with so few players outside. That’s why I said he should have set an RSVP date to know who was coming. They could have had the small group do a photo op in the Oval Office.

If the reports that the numbers were less than 10 are true, the optics would have been a gift for the press.

Great line....

I remember an old church sign reading

“Come to MY house before the game Sunday...God”

Now ‘they’ can play that as if you are for Kneeling and against NFL players doing it, Come on in!
